A new location of Heytea (Shenzhen, China) café was recently opened in the WanFeng Coastal City Shopping Mall in the Shajing Subdistrict, Shenzhen, China. The new storefront was inspired by the cultural and geographic aesthetics of the Shajing Subdistrict while incorporating sleek and modern touch points. Designed by Q&A Studio, the store uses soft stone material on the walls and ceiling and glazed tiles to add a shimmering effect, while diffused white light complements the textures. The Shajing Subdistrict is known as the “oyster” of China, and as such, the lighting fixture mimics a pearl, and the wall materials represent the shell. With the representation of Shajing’s rich history of oyster farming, Heytea blends history, modernity and a welcoming vibe for customers. In 2024, Heytea expanded its U.S. footprint by opening storefronts in some of the most sought-after retail locations, including Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles and Herald Square in New York. “New Contemporary” is the reopened fifth floor of Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam, catering to young adults flocking to the Gangnam neighborhood in Seoul. The floor’s design is meant to evoke a sense of home with bright, diffused overhead lighting, curved walls that narrow and widen and a strong color palette throughout the space. Blending innovation with tradition, the store replaces traditional architectural pillars with Shinsegae’s creations, evoking a fresh style to the department store. Ultimately, the new fifth floor aims to become a dedicated space where millennials and Gen Z can shop for the latest fashion trends. For more design trends, visit VMSD.com Photography: Yongjoon Choi
