    Mapping Neural Crest Development in Zebrafish with Spatial Transcriptomics ??? A new pre-print study from researchers at University of Oxford, Wuhan University, Helmholtz Center Munich and the Stowers Institute for Medical Research, highlights an important discovery in neural crest migration. Using Vizgen’s MERSCOPE? Platform, researchers identified 10 gene programs driving 23 neural crest states. They also uncovered a previously unknown endothelial-like program that regulates neural crest migration, separate from epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). These findings refine our understanding of neural crest development and provide new pathways for studying developmental disorders and regenerative medicine. MERSCOPE enabled the researchers to: ??Spatially validate neural crest states with a custom 300-gene panel across developmental stages. ??Map gene expression at high resolution, enhancing the understanding of cell interactions. ??Validate computational predictions, bridging in silico models with real-world biology. This pre-print demonstrates MERSCOPE’s versatility across species, reinforcing its power in decoding complex gene networks in dynamic developmental processes.
