The average length of a sentence is somewhere between 10 and 20 words. If your students are using parts of speech to tackle those sentences one word at a time, they aren't going to get very far. They MIGHT be able to tell you how many nouns, verds, and adjective they've got, but if they can't put them together to make meaning, what's the point? The point, dear SLPs, educators, and ed therapists, is that students need a better way to tackle all of the sentences-- some much longer than 20 words-- they encounter over the course of their school day. Using research on sentence comprehension AND working memory, we created a way for you to teach those tricky structures that lightens the memory load. Students see how groups of words work together in sentences as chunks, and they begin to unlock every sentence they come across-- even the ones that are 30 - 50 words long! Not only that, but by learning and using our Unlocking Sentences, students make measurable gains in sentence comprehension that transfers to writing! What some of what we're having??Check out Unlocking Sentences. #unlockingsentences #wilsonwritingscience #wilsonlanguage #workingmemory #readingcomprehension
关于我们
Vivido is dedicated to helping educators make learning visible. Through our online courses, custom trainings for schools and school districts, and professional conferences, we give educators powerful methods for teaching language and literacy so they can prepare students to lead successful lives. Since 1996, we were part of Architects For Learning. It always had two divisions, one serving K-college students and one serving education professionals. Over the years, each division of the company became increasingly distinct. In 2020, it became clear that each needed to operate under its own name to fully achieve its mission. Vivido’s one and only commitment is to serve professionals dedicated to a vision that our next generation has the language, literacy, and learning skills needed to lead successful lives.

We've ALL, at one point or another, taken part in professional development that promises to relate to the work we do with students, but doesn't actually deliver. Because of that, we are committed to delivering PD that is not only relevant to SLPs, special educators, classroom teachers, and therapists, but is immediately implementable. Don't just take our word for it. Take Maya's. Brain Frames -- making language AND executive functions visible for ALL students. #brainframes #organizedlanguage #executivefunctions #education

Imagine having a set of visual tools that help you teach difficult-to-understand concepts (that also happen to be invisible! Eep!) no matter the subject, grade, or student. Always. Imagine students using those very same tools to learn, study, and explain what they know about difficult-to-understand concepts no matter the subject or grade. Always. If you already use Brain Frames, then you don't have to imagine. Those scenarios above are already happening for you and the students you work with. If you're not using Brain Frames yet, then join our next online course so you don't have to imagine anymore. Learn these six visual tools and use them to get your students when you want them to go. #always #brainframes #visualtools #makelearningvisible #maketheinvisiblevisible #organizedlanguage #vivido #vividolearning

Participle. Gerund. Indefinite article. Memorizing those terms doesn't lead to better reading comprehension. In fact, trying to memorize the terms, definitions, and how to find them and mark them in text often leads to confusion for so many of our students -- especially the ones who struggle with language or limited working memory. Unlocking Sentences is a way to teach reading comprehension at the sentence level without students having to memorize terms and definitions. Now SLPs and educators can take the course in 2 Saturday sessions (Jan. 27 & Feb. 3, 2024). Learn more and register here: https://lnkd.in/esZMgfrw

"Can you explain that?" SEEMS like a simple request, but for so many of our students who struggle with language, that request is anything BUT simple. Why? Explanations have a unique structure and complex language requirements. Students who can’t recognize those structures or meet those language requirements tend to struggle both in school and in life. A LOT. Speech-Language pathologists and special educators can do quite a bit to help these students. Join us for "When explanations fall apart: Discourse-level intervention," a live webinar with Bonnie Singer, Ph. D and Anthony Bashir, Ph. D. You'll leave the webinar knowing: -The macrostructure patterns of 5 types of explanations -The microstructure language elements unique to each of them -Intervention frameworks and strategies for supporting children who struggle #whenexplanationsfallapart #slpeeps #vivido
