This was 3D printed with recycled glass bottles! In celebration of Earth Day, here's a sneak peek of our latest project ??. We're thrilled to announce a collaboration with the amazing 3D artist Lilian van Daal, who was inspired by cactus and leaf skeletons to capture the interplay of light, shadow, and translucence in this tile design. The full tile will be coming soon :) While AI is taking the world by storm, at Vitriform3D we're proud to support the work of artists like Lilian. This is why we are building a curated catalogue of artist-designed 3D printed tiles to offer our customers. Each tile design in this upcoming collection will list the collaborating artist, and the artist receives royalties for every tile purchase! If you would like to be one of our collaborating artists, please send us a message ???? Vitriform3D cofounder Dustin Gilmer just got published in the prestigious journal Additive Manufacturing for his 3D printing research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory! The research was funded in part by the Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education and involved the rockstar research team of Sungjin Kim, Desarae Goldsby, Peeyush Nandwana, Amy Elliott and Tomonori Saito.

Time for a December update before the holidays! ?? Two weeks ago, co-founder Alex Stiles, PhD went out to Silicon Valley to share Vitriform3D's story and meet with innovative startups and sustainability-minded corporations at the Plug and Play Summit. There were so many fascinating companies at this event, but a few we'd like to highlight include Woamy, BioPlaster Research, Envola, Green Dot Bioplastics, Inc., AgSensor Solutions and VERDE Nanomaterials ??. At the same time, co-founder Dustin Gilmer accepted an innovation award to Vitriform3D from the University of Tennessee Research Foundation - UTRF ??! We're so grateful to Plug and Play and UTRF for hosting both of these events, and for creating supportive environments where start-ups can grow. Plug and Play Tech Center? Using glass waste to 3D print the next generation of building cladding requires R&D in advanced manufacturing, but it also needs something more straightforward - glass! Check out the work of our sister company, Fourth and Glass Recycling Co. , building up a much needed glass collection program in Knoxville.
We just finished our first collection runs, and we picked up over 2000 lbs of glass in two days! That's one ton of glass that won't be going to landfill, but will be crushed and find new life as construction sand and gravel for local projects. With a glass recycling rate of around 7% in Tennessee, we have a lot of room to grow! Let's find more ways to reuse our glass waste, like the 3D printing at Vitriform3D.
