Our latest study, conducted for the European Environment Agency (EEA) reveals that per capita textile consumption increased from 17 kg in 2019 to 19 kg in 2022 – roughly the size of a full suitcase of clothing per person each year. While the textile industry has made significant efficiency gains over the past 15 years, these ???????????????????????? ?????? ?????????? ???????????? ???? ?????????????? ??????????????????????. In 2022, textile production for the EU market used 234 million tonnes of raw materials, or 523 kg per person ?. ??? The waste problem is also growing: each EU citizen generated 16 kg of textile waste in 2022, with only 15% collected separately for reuse or recycling. To truly move towards sustainability, the sector must embrace ???????????????? ????????????: ?? Better quality and longer-lasting products ?? Reuse and repair ?? Improved recycling systems ?? Op de VITO/EnergyVille-site in Thor Central vond vorige week een overleg plaats tussen de directieteams van VITO en VLAIO - Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Tijdens deze ontmoeting werd van gedachten gewisseld over hoe we de valorisatie van onderzoek en innovatie in Vlaanderen verder kunnen versterken, met bijzondere aandacht voor de noden van bedrijven en kmo’s. Aansluitend volgde een rondleiding langs de batterij- en thermotechnische testinfrastructuur en Thoreaq, waarbij de rol van hoogwaardige onderzoeksinfrastructuur als hefboom voor economische en maatschappelijke impact centraal stond. ???? Vandaag werd in LABIOMISTA Genk een belangrijke stap gezet richting een meer duurzame bouwsector. Samen met Embuild Vlaanderen, Buildwise en tal van andere partners ondertekende VITO het ?????????????? ??????-?????????????????? ????????????. Meer dan 150 organisaties verbinden zich ertoe om bio-circulaire materialen te integreren in bouwprojecten – met als ambitie: tegen 2030 minstens 20% bio-circulair materiaalgebruik in nieuwbouw. Deze omschakeling is cruciaal om onze CO?-uitstoot te verminderen én onze afhankelijkheid van ingevoerde grondstoffen terug te dringen. Door samen te werken met aannemers, architecten, landbouwers en materiaalproducenten bouwen we aan een lokaal ecosysteem van bio-gebaseerde oplossingen. Met steun van Vlaams minister Jo Brouns en pioniers zoals Elena Doms (Earth Plus), zetten we als science-to-technology partner mee onze schouders onder deze transitie naar een klimaatneutrale bouwsector tegen 2050.
