Mother-to-mother support groups are safe spaces for moms and babies, where women come together to get advice from trained community health workers, share their experiences, talk about how their babies are growing, and learn about everything from #pregnancy to #breastfeeding to healthy diets. In the #Philippines, the Transforming Lives Through Nutrition consortium is expanding the Barangay First 1000 Days initiative, which works with community-based mother-to-mother support groups to promote healthy nutrition practices for pregnant women, moms, and their young children. Since launching this summer, Transforming Lives has: ?? Met with key stakeholders including mayors, municipal health workers, midwives, and nutrition committee members. Collaboration is vital to success! ?? Held focus groups to test education materials and get invaluable feedback from mothers and project facilitators to refine our guidebook. ???? Started “training the trainers” - the people who will teach community health workers everything they need to know about leading a mother-to-mother support group. These trainings cover antenatal care, proper infant and young child feeding practices (#IYCF), how to detect and treat malnutrition through Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (#CMAM), and how to provide vitamin A supplementation and deworming treatment (VAS+D). Transforming Lives Through Nutrition unites Helen Keller Intl, Vitamin Angels, and iDE (International Development Enterprises), with support from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to improve the #nutrition of underserved pregnant women, infants, and young children in the Philippines and around the world. We were thrilled to join CORE Group DC members and partners from around the world for their Global Health Practitioner’s Conference #GHCP24 in Nairobi, #Kenya, last month. Together, we shared insights about how we can unite and collaborate to advance community health, forge sustainable partnerships, and identify and scale up innovative solutions to tackle global public #health challenges. The Vitamin Angels team presented on a variety of topics to share our perspectives and expertise on improving child #nutrition, including a poster presentation on the results of a coverage survey of our vitamin A supplementation and deworming programs in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and a roundtable presentation on how we can leverage diverse networks to improve coverage and quality of vitamin A supplementation.

In support of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia’s transition of its maternal health program from iron-folic (IFA) to #MMS, Vitamin Angels, Kirk Humanitarian, Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), the Ministry of Finance, the Indonesian MMS Technical Advisory Group, GP Pharmacy, APSKI, and the International Office Faculty Pharmacy Padjadjaran University organized a training on global UNIMMAP #MMS standards and specifications for the pharmaceutical industry in #Indonesia. The event provided an overview of the MMS requirements for the government program, the Expert Consensus on an Open-Access UNIMMAP MMS Consensus Specification, and the current global status of UNIMMAP MMS manufacturing, supply and demand, and the role of Indonesian manufacturers as suppliers.
