Yes, for a few different reasons! Being in front of a screen is almost always promoting sedentary behavior, which can contribute to poor physical health. Think: watching TV, scrolling through Instagram, working at a computer. It can also contribute to poor mental health, from self-esteem and confidence issues to hindering brain performance. Researchers report that children perform better in school when they have less screen time. You can turn this around by limiting your daily screen time: -Put a limit on your phone for how long you spend on social media -Put a limit on how long you watch TV in the evenings and on weekends -Take a break every hour to get up from your desk and stretch -Replace the time you would have spent watching TV with another activity, such as gardening, walking, hiking, biking, swimming, reading… the list goes on and on! Here are tips for protecting yourself while outdoors: Try to stay out of direct sunlight for long periods of time. Avoid sunburns and sun exposure by using adequate skin protection and wearing brimmed hats, protective clothing, and sunscreen.
