We’re thrilled to have attended #HSR2024 this week and shared 2 presentations on how policymakers can strengthen health systems and save lives with strong data analysis and use. ?? In Colombia, public health officials are monitoring the impact of poor air quality on mortality at subnational levels, using the results to guide local health policy and decision-making. ?? Bloomberg Philanthropies #Data4Health Initiative’s Data-Centered Leadership approach builds capacity in health leaders for data-driven decisions and a culture of data use. Most recently, in Shanghai and Papua New Guinea, Data-Centered Leadership has empowered over 150 leaders to enhance data review and decision processes, leading to 85 data use improvement plans. #DataImpact

“Communication is central to public health for two main reasons: one is that communication can articulate and describe to the public the rationale for policies to enable us to be healthier—seatbelts, helmets, and speed limits are examples of this. Another is that communication can also reach people with important messages about changing or adopting behaviors that can help them live a healthier life.” Sandra Mullin, our Senior Vice President, Policy Advocacy and Communication spoke to The Bangladesh Post about how communications campaigns can help change road user behavior to make streets safer. We spoke to three families who have lost loved ones to preventable overdoses, who are speaking up and calling for harm reduction interventions to be made more widely available. These families state that a public health response, not criminalization, would have kept their loved ones alive and safer. This is the first in the series of videos we created with Broken No More.
