Public transport can play a key role in helping to reduce air pollution. In Jakarta, Indonesia air pollution causes over 10,000 premature deaths each year. By investing in cleaner transit options, we can protect public health and the environment. On #CleanAirDay 2024, Breathe Jakarta partnered with the Jakarta Transportation Agency, ITDP Indonesia, & other stakeholders for discussions on a public transport policy to reduce emissions, creating a roadmap for zero-emission zones in the city.

Air pollution is an urgent public health issue. We also need to educate the next generation about its dangers. On the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, Vital Strategies joined the National Centre for Disease Control in India under the USAID supported #CleanerAirAndBetterHealth project and Health Volunteers to host a workshop to engage and empower young leaders to reduce air pollution. The project aims to strengthen air pollution mitigation and reduce exposure through better air quality management. Thanks to the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) along with Thanks to Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), Soumitri Das, Sonia D. Traffic police officers are at a high risk of exposure to air pollution. With the #CleanAirCatalyst program, we held a workshop with traffic police in Indore, India to educate them about air pollution and how they can reduce their exposure to it while working and its impact on their health.

We recently conducted a one-day training session for urban Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) in Indore, India under the #CleanAirCatalyst initiative. ASHAs learned more about the causes and sources of #AirPollution, its effects on different age groups, and its health consequences. This is part of our ongoing efforts to train the frontline health workers on the impacts of air pollution. Empowering ASHAs as community mobilizers is a vital step in our effort to improve urban air quality and public health.

We need harm reduction solutions to address the drug overdose crisis in the U.S., not incarceration. This week, 50 family members who’ve lost loved ones to overdose will gather for a 3 day conference in New Mexico to discuss navigating grief and drug policy reform. We joined our partners at Broken No More to create this powerful testimonial video featuring families who’ve lost loved ones, who explain why they support health solutions to the overdose crisis instead of criminalization and incarceration. "We understand that by registering our births, deaths, and marriages, we are not just complying with the law, but also securing our rights and those of our children," said Claudine Nyiransabimana, a mother of four. Thank you to The New Times (Rwanda) for spotlighting the enthusiasm in Rwanda for registering vital events — and the new digital platforms that make registration as easy as possible. #Data4Health #CRVS #CountingEveryone https://lnkd.in/eWp_Y9Mf
