More than 3,907 organizations are now managing a combined $1.571 trillion USD in impact assets globally, according to?The Global Impact Investing Network’s (GIIN)?new?Sizing the Impact Investing Market 2024 report. That indicates a powerful 21% compound annual growth (CAGR) since 2019, underscoring the incredible progress of our field. Still, the report finds emerging markets and the Global South remain underrepresented and underinvested, with impact AUM allocation “disproportionately insufficient” to keep up with growing needs and opportunities. As GIIN members, Vital Capital is proud to have been part of the journey over the past 14 years, working to deliver transformative impact in emerging markets. This year’s findings are more than just numbers — they reflect an accelerating commitment to address the urgent social and environmental challenges we face. But it’s clear there is still much to be done. To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we need broader engagement and more capital directed toward meaningful change. At Vital, we remain steadfast in our mission to drive transformational impact, harnessing the momentum this new data represents. Vital Capital Managing Partner Nimrod Gerber recently caught up with Jennifer Forrest at Environmental Finance. They discussed the?challenges of disproving perceived risk of emerging market investing, why the typical private equity playbook fails to work in sub-Saharan Africa, and what the continent's pending demographic shift means for investors. ? “Africa is entering an outstanding demographical shift, as its 1.4 billion population is expected to increase to 2.5 billion people in less than 25 years. There has not been a demographic shift like that anywhere during the history of mankind. We believe that the companies that cater to the most basic needs and services, delivering them in an affordable and accessible way, are bound for success.” ?
