Have you been to or heard of Issaquah? There is just something about mountain towns that draws me in. I've been craving to slow down and move out of the city of Seattle for a while now, but you know, kids in high school, etc. I'm not thinking deep in the woods and off the grid (yet), but in a place like Issaquah. This quiet and vibrant community is nestled in the foothills of the Cascades just 30 minutes from Seattle, with rare access to nature, world-class mountain biking, arts, music, and good food, brew, and wine. It is idyllic. YES! Since I can't live there, I'm just giddy about having the opportunity to continue our work with Christy Garrard and Visit Issaquah. After completing our award-winning Destination Stewardship Leadership Program last year, we were invited back to help them move powerfully into a regenerative future, and thanks to the State of Washington Tourism and the Port of Seattle, that's exactly what we're doing. We're 3 weeks into the 10-month program and just completed a transformative 2-day workshop that included finding their Ikigai, cultivating personal and communal purpose and values, diving into the Inner Development Goals, focusing on potential, playing, visioning, and strategizing. This deep work beneath the surface is planting the seeds for a long-term, holistic, and community-led tourism development strategy to emerge, live, and breathe for decades to come. This is a time of extraordinary change and challenge, and tourism is recalibrating to meet the moment. And so are we! Our Destination Regeneration Program is designed around human connection for enlightened disruption, impact, and endurance. I am proud to share that it was a success ... but not one easily achieved, as we take an innovative and sometimes uncomfortable approach.
