The numbers are in: the 2024 Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony made history with a new record of 115,000 people visiting Detroit on Friday evening, beating last year’s record of 105k. ??? Thank you to each and every one of you who joined us in the city for the 21st annual Detroit Tree Lighting presented by DTE Energy Foundation and produced by Downtown Detroit Partnership to celebrate the kick-off to the holiday season! Join us in taking a moment to congratulate Marty Dobek, Detroit Sports Commission Deputy Director for being selected as a Crain's Detroit Business 2024 40 under 40 Honoree! ???? Marty played a pivotal role in the 2024 NFL Draft as the primary point person to the National Football League (NFL) on behalf of the NFL Draft Detroit Local Organizing Committee. The committee included the Detroit Sports Commission and Visit Detroit as well as countless partners such as the Detroit Lions, the City of Detroit, Downtown Detroit Partnership, Bedrock Detroit, Olympia Development of Michigan, Rocket Mortgage, Wayne County Michigan, and many others. A massive local effort, Marty was involved with the NFL Draft from the very beginning, starting in 2017 during the bid process and continuing the work after the DSC received the bid in 2022. The Detroit NFL Draft is officially the most-attended Draft ever with over 775,000 people having attended across three days! The event elevated our city’s profile and showcased our incredible community to a global audience on a massive scale. ???? Under Marty’s direction, the Sports Commission and Visit Detroit will continue to showcase Detroit as the best sports town as we prepare to host the 2027 NCAA Men’s Final Four, 2028 Big Ten Women’s basketball tournament, and the 2028 NCAA Men’s Midwest Regional.? ? Exciting Detroit news! This month Michigan Central Station celebrated another milestone moving its first tenants into the restored landmark.?????? Ford Motor Company has officially moved its Model e electric vehicle division and Integrated Services software team into the iconic location, housing nearly 500 workspaces with plans to have 1,000 employees in Corktown by the end of the year. By 2028, the Corktown campus is expected to host around 2,500 employees, driving Detroit’s growth as a hub for advanced mobility technology! The employees will be located at the station, as well as Michigan Central's neighbor The Factory and Newlab, which is housed in the renovated Book Depository building and home to 100+ startups and 670 members focused on mobility-focused companies. In addition to Ford, Michigan Central station will soon be home to beloved east side Detroit location Yellow Light Coffee and Donuts, with plans of a hotel on the upper floors in the works and details to be announced. ?????? As?#HispanicHeritageMonth?comes to a close this week, we wanted to take a moment and spotlight our Southwest and Mexicantown neighborhoods because in Detroit, the celebration isn’t confined to one month, it’s just how we roll. Together with local visual journalist Brayan Gutierrez?we’re excited to share some recent milestones and moments of celebration from across Southwest. ??????
