Detroit’s tech scene is making headlines ???? Detroit’s startup ecosystem is the 2nd-fastest growing in the world (behind only Dubai) and Detroit’s?Black Tech Saturdays?is at the heart of it all! ?? Founded in 2023 by husband-and-wife team?Johnnie Turnage?and?Alexa Turnage, Black Tech Saturdays is a community-led movement focused on increasing Black tech representation and community wealth. Tens of thousands of people have participated in tech networking, collaboration, and education sessions across the U.S. thanks to BTS. ??? ?? Join us and?Chris Kyle for a look at last weekend’s Detroit Black History Month Innovation Summit ‘The Belonging Blueprint”. The event was the largest Black History Month summit east of the Mississippi, featuring 3 stages and more than 1,500 attendees who joined together to celebrate the brilliance of Detroit’s innovators, changemakers, and tech leaders who are shaping the future. The energy, the connections, and the inspiration in the room were unmatched. The event was hosted at?Newlab?at?Michigan Central, which is home to over 250 startups and more than 1,000 entrepreneurs, investors, and inventors who are continuing to put Detroit on the map. One after another! Detroit is continuing to make headlines and has been designated one of the 50 Best Places to Travel in 2025 by Travel + Leisure ???? One of the world’s most renowned travel publications, Travel + Leisure’s annual highlight spotlights must-visit destinations for traveler's to take note of.?To curate the list their editors vetted 120 contenders, focusing on categories like big city thrills, cultural richness, natural beauty and places that feel “of the moment”. Something that if you've spent time here recently, you'll instantly recognize to be true for Detroit. The feature highlighted the nearly 800,000 visitors who came for the 2024 National Football League (NFL) Draft, as well as the inspiring transformation of Book Tower, now home to Roost Hotel and multiple delicious restaurants that have opened since the city celebrated the landmark’s grand return. ?? The Hudson Site and upcoming Edition Hotel (which will be the first 5-star hotel in Detroit), and the way Michigan Central is making waves in Corktown as a global innovation hub were also spotlighted as examples of Detroit’s continued innovation and creativity. And while Travel & Leisure said that Detroit got its swagger back, it's a fact that Detroit has always been the creators of swag and this designation is just a rightful nod to the people of Detroit who continue to make Detroit special every single day. The piece highlights the upcoming opening of the Gordie Howe Bridge that will connect Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, Canada, the expansion of our world-class Riverfront including the upcoming opening of the 22-acre Ralph C. Wilson Centennial Park, and the reopening and continued evolution of Michigan Central Station. ?????? But what makes Detroit truly special has never changed: the people who shape it every day. This year was one for the books and our Annual Meeting was a special opportunity to look back on everything we accomplished and come together to get excited for 2025!
