Celebrating women's month with amazing women making wave right here in Pleasant Hill! Sue Atkinson Noack for Pleasant Hill City Council has been a council member in Pleasant Hill for the last nine years and has served as Mayor and Vice Mayor on multiple occasions. She comments, “One of my biggest impacts was to lead the Measure K one half cent sales tax measure, which allowed us to build our new library, accelerate road paving, and complete needed infrastructure projects. The new library is our pride and joy and am so happy to have led that project.” Additionally, Sue was the PTA president both at Strandwood Elementary and Pleasant Hill Middle School and she cofounded the Foundation for Pleasant Hill Education, which has raised over $350,000 for the Pleasant Hill public schools. “One of my favorite activities has been to participate in government activities at our local elementary schools,” comments Sue. She continues, “While women have made a lot of headway, I was disappointed to hear young girls being surprised that a woman could be mayor. Hopefully being a role model encourages many of these young girls to pursue leadership roles.” Her career before getting involved in city politics was in the finance world, also still a bit of a rarity for females. She was the Chief Risk Office for a leasing company for seven years and was the first women to lead the aircraft leasing business. Sue comments, “Many women are not encouraged to follow careers where math is involved. Again, progress continues to be made here, but those of us successful in these areas need to support the women coming up behind us.”
Celebrating amazing women in Pleasant Hill this women's month Cindy Tunales is the Branch Manager for @traviscu Travis Credit Union’s Pleasant Hill Branch and the current Board Treasurer for the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce. She has been in financial services for over 12 years and in management for six years. She enjoys advocating for her community by offering free seminars around Financial Education to all ages. She has even gone out to high schools around the Bay Area and shared how to budget and save, how to build credit, and how to utilize credit cards the correct way and how to understand what interest on loans is. She also visits Senior Centers to share best practices on how to protect elders from identity theft. According to Cindy, “Not only do I enjoy advocating for my community, but also for my staff.” She continues, “I enjoy helping them grow into their roles as financial service representative and into future leaders. My goal is to help people achieve their financial goals and to improve people’s financial literacy.” Additionally, Cindy was recently part of “Day of Empowering Girls,” which was an event held for ALL 8th grade girls in the Antioch School District. Cindy reflects, “I saw many girls who are natural born leaders and I was able to connect with many young girls having the same background of being Second Generation Latina.”
