Baton Rouge truly is a sports town! The proof is in the numbers. Last week, Baton Rouge hosted an estimated 7300 plus people across 6 different sporting events that happened throughout the city/parish not including USBC Bowlers, LSU baseball and softball home series, a Southern baseball home series or any other conventions/meetings that took place. This weekend, we are expecting over 12,000 visitors across 3 sporting events. This number also does not include bowlers or any collegiate events in town. Think about those numbers and the impact these events have on our community through sports tourism. This is new money being spent in our city/state generating tax revenue that supports us as citizens. Visit Baton Rouge Louisiana Office of Tourism

Another big weekend in the books here in Baton Rouge as we hosted two major events, The 34th Cajun Classic Wheelchair Tennis Tournament and the 16th Tripp Roth Softball Tournament. This year’s Cajun Classic field was comprised of 100 professional and amateur players from 20 countries and 22 states (including Louisiana) and includes the winners and finalists of the world’s four Grand Slams: the U.S. Open, Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon. The tournament also attracted 19 junior players from across the United States who will compete for top honors among players under the age of 18. The Cajun Classic, long recognized as one of the most popular wheelchair tournaments worldwide, is a “Super Series” level event, just one step below the Grand Slams. There are only four Super Series tournaments in the world, and only one in the United States. The Cajun Classic is part of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour, is presented by the Greater Baton Rouge Community Tennis Association (GBRCTA), and is produced by the Baton Rouge Wheelchair Tennis Association (BRWTA). The Tripp Roth Softball tournament was hosted by USSSA and played at Oak Villa Sports Park and featured 129 teams with 72 from outside of Louisiana representing 10 different states with the furthest teams from New Hampshire and Minnesota. This is the first time it has been back in Baton Rouge after some stops around the state over the last several years.

Last week, our Destination Experience team attended the Catersource + The Special Event Show Conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL! ??
