Last week, Vision To Learn's South Carolina team had a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. A young patient, "Steven", was provided his first-ever eye exam. At first everything seemed normal, except for a mild blur when Steven looked at objects at a distance. But then photos from a retinal camera caught the optometrist's attention: it appears that Steven's optic nerves were swollen. Immediately, the optometrist referred Steven to a pediatric ophthalmologist, then to MUSC Health, where they discovered raised intracranial pressure. Untreated, Steven could have faced seizures, vision loss, or even a stroke. Fortunately, because this was caught early Steven is now back in school and thriving! His family even wrote to us, saying: "To say that we are so thankful for the Lion's Club and VTL would be an understatement!" #visiontolearn #eyecare #eyecareprofessionals #SouthCarolina

关于我们
Vision To Learn is the largest school-based vision care nonprofit in the country. VTL exists to address one basic premise – if you can’t see, you can’t learn. Vision To Learn provides eye exams and glasses to students in underserved communities to help them succeed in school and in life at no cost to the child or their family. See visiontolearn.org for current opportunities to make a difference in your community. Vision To Learn solves a problem affecting as many as 1.5 million children nationwide who lack the glasses they need to see the board, read a book, study math or participate in class. Kids in low-income communities and minorities are disproportionately affected. The problem is one of access as most of the kids, for a host of reasons, do not get to a doctor. Vision To Learn solves the problem by bringing the clinic to the kids at schools and community organizations and providing eye exams and glasses free of charge. Vision To Learn has accomplished a great deal since it was started in 2012 in Los Angeles and plans to use that experience to serve as a model for the rest of the nation.

???? A Vision of Success! Today, Vision To Learn was thrilled to be at César E. Chávez Elementary School in Eugene, providing 49 students with glasses! Dr. Charlene Williams, Director of the Oregon Department of Education and Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction, joined us, alongside Eugene School District 4J?Interim Superintendent Colt Gill and Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis, as these students experienced the joy of trying on their brand-new pairs of glasses for the first time. Thank you both for your support for our program and for making this day even more special for these kids! Since our Oregon launch last fall, we’ve been able to give nearly 2,700 eye exams and over 2,000 glasses to children statewide—all at no cost to the child or their families.
