Strategic Foresight, Cultural Strategy & Consumer Intelligence / VP Global, Foresight @ VIRTUE Worldwide
?? Energised and inspired after an incredible day at the Tate last week! BIG thank you to Judith Comyn , Jake Dolby & Jodie Bates for inviting?us to bring an outside POV to this forum. Joshua Proctor, myself and VIRTUE Worldwide had the pleasure of diving into a conversation about the future of museums and galleries. We explored crucial questions like: - How can cultural institutions cultivate the fervent fandom of young people? - How do you build shared codes, meanings, and ideas that resonate with youth today? And we also learnt a hell of a?lot listening to institutions across the UK redefining cultural spaces and creating environments where young people can explore, learn, and participate in new, meaningful ways. Looking forward to seeing these ideas come to life.... #CultureAndYouth #FutureOfMuseums #Innovation #CulturalSpaces #YouthEngagement
We were very proud to welcome Tate colleagues, Tate Collective Producers (our young people community), sector colleagues from London Museums & Galleries and plus Tate sites from around the UK as well as our research partners to Tate Britain for a day to discuss how museums and galleries can be more relevant to and on the radar of young people. It was a full and rich day with some presentations from Tate; a brilliant presentation from Amy Davies, MDes. from Virtue (the insights arm of Vice) and an inspiring panel discussion moderated by our very own Leyla Tahir with insightful and rich commentary from Meneesha Kellay, Andrew Vaughan , Rudi Minto de Wijs, Cas Bradbeer and Cheryl Brown. I loved the guided meditation by young people collective - Art beyond the Shell led by Ira Alecia Gardner to get us to connect with our inner young person - what a trip down memory lane! The day culminated in a workshop led by Dualeh from Art beyond the shell again, whereby teams worked on draft young people manifestos. They did a brilliant job. It was an inspiring, funny and thought provoking day. Some of the key insights I gained were from talking to the attendees and realising that whilst there are commonalities across our sites, that different sized and located sites will need different approaches to engage with young people in their locality. Hosting a conference like this, felt like hosting a party and it was a shame that I didn't get to speak to and meet everyone. That is my only regret. Finally a special shout out to my team and especially to Jodie Bates and Jake Dolby who worked so hard to make this happen.

"The day I leave this industry will be the day that I no longer feel as though I am developing, learning and experimenting. We are so lucky that as creatives, it’s our job to always be inspired. So if it feels that we’re only picking up new books, using new tools or sharpening our pencils at one key point in the year, then we’ve got a problem." ??♀? Our brilliant group creative director Mandy Gould shared her thoughts on the 'back to school' mentality and why agencies need to adopt this all year round via Creativebrief. ?? "Being ‘culturally relevant’ wasn’t a buzzword a few years ago, but it is now, and it’s losing meaning. In our world, being culturally relevant isn’t about jumping on the latest TikTok trend. It’s about something deeper." Find out what our brilliant VP Foresight Amy Davies, MDes. had to say on today's gen Z audiences, masculinity and #PIGEON in her recent interview with LBBonline - Little Black Book.
