Being that African-Americans own under 2% of the nation’s hotels, Davonne is trying to change that. This business mogul took part in this herself when she and a colleague acquired the Home2 Suites by Hilton in El Reno, Oklahoma to the tune of about $8.3 million. This earned them the title of the youngest Back women to own a major hotel chain. Her goal is to spread awareness about black-owned hotels as well as encourage other people of color to set their sights on owning properties as well to really diversify the market. "I want more people to know about these beautiful spaces, and more importantly, the need for more targeted support. These property owners need that to survive and to thrive in the hospitality industry," Reaves said. ? Before it's opening, many black performers and entertainers had to stay in black boarding houses because they were not allowed in hotel dining spaces and casinos. Because of this, a group of investors wanted a fully integrated hotel from the patrons to the staff. Eventually, this hotel attracted many household names in the entertainment industry such as Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra. Though this hotel was short lived, closing in October 1955, it made quite an impact throughout the Las Vegas community. It wasn't long until more and more hotel owners decided to fully integrate their hotels as well.
