Last Thursday, Virginia Tech alum and film producer, Zak Kristofek '13 visited and led an in-person Q&A session with our Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts cinema students in the Squires recital salon. Zak shared his experience with producing three major films (all currently streaming) and about working with actors like Orlando Bloom and Andie MacDowell. ???

The Virginia Tech faculty were among 162 emerging inventors from across the nation to make up the National Academy of Inventors 2025 class. One of the United Kingdom’s premier string ensembles, the Dante Quartet makes its debut at the Moss Arts Center with a performance featuring Brian Thorsett, associate professor in Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts and an accomplished tenor, on Thursday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. Immediately following the performance, join members of the Dante Quartet and the composer for an open post-performance discussion. ?? While visiting Blacksburg, Dante Quartet members will hold three separate master classes for School of Performing Arts students. At a histories of music class, British composer Ian Venables will join members of the quartet to discuss the process and importance of collaboration when commissioning new works. In honor of Jessie S. Yee, an avid supporter of the arts, Gordon Yee and the Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts are pleased to announce the fourth annual Yee Prize student music composition competition. All students currently enrolled at Virginia Tech, regardless of degree or school, are encouraged to submit their best music composition, in any genre or medium. The composers of the three winning compositions will receive $500, $250, and $100, presented at the April 2025 New Music + Technology Festival in the Cube of the Moss Arts Center. To apply for the competition, each composer should submit one MP3 or WAV audio recording or MP4 video recording of their best composition, along with a matching PDF score, if applicable.
