We recently delivered a power transformer to an Appalachian Electric Cooperative (AEC) substation in Tennessee. The 15/28 MVA, 68.8/13.09 kV power distribution unit designed with a 60-year service life will help provide reliable power to businesses and residents in the area. Founded in 1940, Appalachian Electric Cooperative is a nonprofit, member-owned and operated rural electric cooperative that serves the state of Tennessee. AEC owns more than 2,700 miles of transmission and distribution lines that serve more than 50,000 members. Virginia Transformer is proud to support AEC in providing reliable power for Tennesseans. The 63 GW is a nearly 30% increase from 2024 when 48.6 GW of capacity was installed.? If you’re involved in this new capacity, thank you for helping America with its power needs. We recently delivered a power transformer to the Vega 5 solar and BESS project in Folsom, California. The 30/50 MVA, 92/34.5 kV generator step-up unit designed with a 60-year service life will help deliver solar energy to the electrical grid. ? The Vega 5 solar facility is part of the Vega SES Complex, which is a wider project of photovoltaic solar energy and battery storage infrastructure under construction in Imperial County, California. Upon completion, the Vega SES Complex will consist of a 350 megawatt alternating current PV solar energy facility with an integrated 350 megawatt battery storage system, along with on-site substations, interconnection facilities, associated electrical equipment, and access roads. ? Congrats to all involved in engineering, building, shipping, and installing this unit.

There are many mission-critical uses of transformers, and powering a major airport and its air traffic control system would be near the top of the list. Virginia Transformer recently delivered a new power distribution transformer for the Wayne County Airport Authority in Detroit, Michigan (airline code DTW). Built at the company’s Roanoke plant, this 14/23.33 MVA, 13.8/12.47 kV unit will provide reliable power to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport as part of their North Powerhouse expansion project. ? DTW is a major hub for domestic and international flights. With six runways, two terminals, and 129 in-service gates, the airport is Michigan’s busiest and serves more than 140 destinations worldwide. ? This unit demonstrates our ongoing commitment to supporting our nation’s essential infrastructure, as one of the most significant international airports in the United States calls upon Virginia Transformer for its reliability.
