Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation (VT-ARC) and Capra Biosciences extend a big "Thank You!" to all participants in Friday’s Virginia Biomanufacturing Summit held November 22nd at the VA Bio+Tech Park in Richmond. Biotechnology stakeholders from industry, academia, and the government gathered to discuss organizing and strengthening Virginia’s biomanufacturing ecosystem. The Summit, with more than 70 participants, featured an outstanding list of speakers and panelists. Activation Capital's Nicolai Shuman and VT-ARC’s Matt Wolfe welcomed attendees followed by inspirational remarks from Virginia’s U.S. Senator Mark Warner (watch here: https://lnkd.in/efNxd9Ud) and keynote speaker Juan Pablo Segura, Chief Deputy Secretary of Commerce and Trade (https://lnkd.in/ejDHM5tS). George Mason University’s Institute for Biohealth Innovation Executive Director Amy Adams moderated the morning’s panel: Commissioner Joe Guthrie from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, University of Virginia Associate Professor and entrepreneur Keith Kozminski, and Alex Berlin, founder/CEO/CTO of Solar Biotech . NY CREATES Vice President of Research, Dr. Satyavolu "Pops" Papa Rao presented the afternoon plenary. VT-ARC STEM visited Mason Crest Elementary School to engage fourth and fifth grade students in coding and programming with #microbit. These students had the chance to create and play games using micro:bits. High-school students from the Hispanic Youth Initiative provided extra support by answering questions and ensuring all students were engaged. VT-ARC STEM looks forward to facilitating hands-on STEM learning experiences with more students throughout the area in the future!
