The Old Dominion University Maritime and Offshore Wind Conference brought together students, professionals, and industry leaders for a full day of conversation around innovation, regional project updates, and career opportunities in offshore wind. One of the biggest announcements came from Patrick Y. Shim of LS GreenLink USA, who shared that construction will begin next month on a $680M subsea cable manufacturing facility in Chesapeake—set to be the tallest building in Virginia and a major boost to the Commonwealth’s offshore wind leadership. Kevin M. Carroll of Dominion Energy joined fellow panelists for “Charting Careers in OSW,” sharing advice on workforce development and growth. Another standout session was “Agile Evolution” with Rachel Upshaw, Will Fediw, and Kevin Smith, who discussed how maritime businesses are adapting and growing alongside offshore wind.
