Last week, VHWDA was honored to participate in the RAND Health Care Workforce Summit held in Arlington, Virginia. This event convened key stakeholders to explore and identify promising practices for developing the health care workforce in the United States. Our Executive Director, Harrison Hayes, delivered a presentation titled "Virginia Health Workforce Development Authority – Using Data to Inform Policy and Practice," emphasizing the critical role of data-driven strategies in shaping effective health workforce policies in Virginia. Additionally, Dr. Amy SM Paul, our Director of Statewide Graduate Medical Education (GME), contributed her expertise during the "Health Policy and the Health Care Workforce" panel, discussing innovative approaches to GME that address workforce challenges and enhance health care delivery across the Commonwealth. VHWDA remains committed to advancing Virginia's health care workforce through research, education, and collaboration. Engaging in forums like the RAND Summit enables us to share insights, learn from national experts, and strengthen our initiatives to ensure quality health care for all Virginians.

Yesterday, the VHWDA team had the privilege of visiting Augusta Health, where we connected with executives, GME leaders, and—most inspiringly—the 10 internal medicine residents benefiting from our supplemental payment program. It was truly energizing to hear firsthand from these talented residents about their journeys into medicine and the impact they aspire to make here in Virginia. Their dedication to improving patient care and addressing community health needs reaffirms why we’re committed to supporting Graduate Medical Education across the Commonwealth. Thank you to the leadership team at Augusta Health for hosting us and for your commitment to nurturing the next generation of healthcare providers. And to the residents—your passion and drive are exactly what Virginia’s healthcare system needs. We are so proud to support your growth and future contributions to our communities.
