Rebuilding after an extreme weather event takes community, time, and money. Please consider donating or sharing the Disaster Relief Fund linked below to provide financial support to our neighbors impacted by Hurricane Helene in Southwest Virginia. Resilience efforts work better when we're in it together! ??
We have been in touch with colleagues from the New River Valley and Southwest Virginia regarding the impact of Hurricane Helene on their communities. Our colleague at the New River Valley Regional Commission informed us that in his localities 100+ homes have been completely destroyed. In SW Virginia (Cumberland Plateau Planning District Commission) the focus has been on debris removal. Humanitarian support is being undertaken throughout their regions. Given logistics challenges, etc. it is respectfully requested that monetary donations be made to the United Way of Southwest Virginia. You can find the link here: https://lnkd.in/ePCMbcjh

The Northern Virginia Regional Commission is pleased to be working with a Masters student from George Mason University to update NVRC's pioneering solar map that helps project the potential solar output of a #solar project on a person's home or business. Since its launch in 2016 the map has been viewed more than 85,000 times and serves as an important educational tool in support of the Commission's Solarize NoVA program. The map can be found here: https://lnkd.in/d4Uf__M We look forward to the update to the map later this year or early 2025 to help support our regional #solar campaign. To date, more than 1,000 families have gone solar as the result of our regional campaign. We are truly #bettertogether.

The Local Climate Action Planning Initiative is proud to announce that #HenryCountyVa officially adopted the Energy Action Plan that we helped develop over the course of one year. Congratulations to the Mason team--Elliot Meyer, Schuyler (George) Lynch, Rebecca Grossi, Jared Weaver, and Elza Thomas. And congratulations to the Henry County, VA Board of Supervisors and the community energy task force! This marks the first time a Virginia university has developed an energy action plan for a municipality outside of its immediate county. The LCAPI is ready and willing to help all Virginians.
