It is always an honor to present Virginia Department of Transportation with a Perpetual Pavement Award for Design. I-66 Outside the Beltway was a 3 million ton project where the existing pavement was removed or reconstructed and new lanes were added. David Shiells, District Materials Engineer, submitted the APA application on behalf of VDOT. David received the plaque and Bill Cuttler, District Engineer, received the Perpetual Pavement obelisk. Congratulations VDOT NOVA District.

Spent the day on Capitol Hill stressing the issues that matter to industry - new reauthorization bill for highway funding, tax cuts, worker safety and workforce training. Great conversations with Senators and Representatives.

Listening to Karl Rove discuss the upcoming election on Hill Day for the transportation materials industries. This will be a full day talking to Virginia Congressional Delegation.

Great way to start the week. Attending the Joint House and Senate Agriculture Committee Meeting chaired by Del. Lopez and Senator Marsden at the Hotel Madison in Harrisonburg. Taking some time to listen to various environmental issues facing the Commonwealth. Sharing efforts by the asphalt industry to protect the environment with elected officials and meeting attendees.
