There was a time in the 1980's when Nick Giammusso our company President & CEO ran a traditional venue box office at The Memorial Auditorium in our hometown of Buffalo, NY. He essentially reported to the artist's manager and the ultimate goal was to get asses in the seats and efficiently distribute event tickets so the artist was happy. The phone would ring with clients looking to buy tickets to an already sold-out event. The next call was someone who had extra seats they wanted to return for a refund. Standard policy at the box office was (and still is today)- NO refunds or exchanges! So Nick would take phone numbers and match-up fans to help one buy and the other sell their tickets. At an early age he noticed a need to help the average fan buy and sell tickets! So first known as VIP Entertainment, then VIP Seats, and now VIPTIX, our business was born and thrived as a full-service ticket company serving the needs of the average fan! Working from a Sicilian Café.
How lucky am I to be able to do some work in Italy at another coffee shop @ Café Vinci! Specifically, I am in my Dad’s and both of my wife’s parents hometown of Campobello di Licata, Sicily. It’s a very basic, simple small town with amazing down-to-earth people where we have a lot of family and friends. The six-hour time difference, and my own internal body clock of 11am- 2am make it a perfect working arrangement with the 9-5 working hours back home. The Sicilian people live a comfortable life here. The culture is different. I really feel quite at home. However, the café, or coffee shop is a completely different experience here in Sicily. I was the only person in the coffee shop this morning that was working on a computer! You see the Sicilians go for a cappuccino or an espresso to socialize, and their culture is all about family and friends. Our coffee shops seem to be more about business meetings, schoolwork, ear buds and seem more to be more isolated and rushed. They sit to talk, laugh literally for hours. It’s completely different from my usual Spot Coffee mornings in Williamsville. So many patrons stop at my table to say hello and to ask why I’m working while I’m on vacation? I really don’t know how to respond to their question other than to say that I truly enjoy running VIPTIX.com , working at HUNT Commercial Real Estate and Picone Construction. They look at me strange and can’t comprehend that I have three jobs. Maybe tomorrow morning I’m just going to leave my computer in our apartment and enjoy my morning the way Sicilians do.
