Discovering Australian wines with Angus Hughson & 67 Pall Mall Bordeaux…
The story of Australian wines is one of ambition, innovation and resilience, that spans over two centuries. This remarkable journey is finally told in its entirety by Andrew Caillard MW’s masterful opus, The Australian Ark.
To bring this fascinating story to life, 67 Pall Mall Bordeaux organised yesterday a truly memorable Masterclass led by Andrew’s editorial co-publisher and Vinous Media LLC Australian Editor, Angus Hugson. A way to explore the enduring vinicultural connections between France and Australia.
It was a real pleasure to discover this overview of Australian wines history through six exceptional bottles (and so nice to share this tasting with you Jane Anson!)
Some of these wines were based on surviving pre-phylloxera 19th and early 20th Century ??francs de pieds?? vineyards:
- 2023, Margaret River, Howard Park Allingham, Chardonnay
- 2023, Hunter Valley, Mount Pleasant Mothervine, Pinot Noir
- 2018, Barossa Valley, Cirillo 1850, Grenache
- 2018, Barossa Valley, Yalumba Octavius, Shiraz
- 2020, Margaret River, Vasse Felix Tom Cullity, Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec
- 2010, Coonawarra, Parker Estate First Growth, Cabernet Sauvignon
Many thanks to Angus Hughson, Lorraine Carrigan, Marine Jouanneau, Laurianne Brun and all the 67 Pall Mall Bordeaux team for welcoming us and organizing such an interesting Masterclass!
