This month, we celebrated Diwali across Vimeo, with our amazing teams in NYC and India sharing the joy! ? In NYC, our AAPI @ Vimeo ERG hosted an afternoon of henna, chai, and a delicious feast with classic Indian favorites. Meanwhile, our #Vimeans in India honored this special festival with virtual games and beautiful traditions at home with their families. Happy Diwali to all!

Its an honor represent the team awarded with the Barry Innovation Award from the American Council of the Blind. If you know me personally, you will know how passionate I am about building inclusive products, and Audio Description is often forgotten as a format by able bodied viewers.?However Audio description has become an essential voice for the blind community and its great to see Vimeo empowering creatives to be able to make content more inclusive and available to everyone. This feature was born from an idea pitched by our wonderful curation team who found a film with directors commentary and thought it was a good idea to be able to provide a different audio rendition to go alongside a user upload. Years went on and Vimeo built 100s of amazing things, along with miles of complexity in our systems. So when it came the day to build the ability to have 1 video and multiple audio renditions, this meant we needed to rethink again how we process, store and deliver video experiences like this to millions of viewers. We moved mountains to get this feature into production, but in doing so we paved this path forward to a stronger Vimeo, unlocking one of our biggest features to launch in years with AI Audio translations.? Thank you to the ACB and thank you to all the Audio Describers and community building amazing content for all. This gala awards event really highlights some of the top talent in the Audio describing industry and shows how this really is a creative and integrated part of the film and television production process and an amazing way to encourage inclusive hiring overall.

#vimeoREFRAME intrigued me at first because I wondered why, after 20 successful years, Vimeo decided to create and host a new conference. In participating, I realized it was the perfect time. Right now is the tipping point where everything about the history of video is the catalyst for the future of video. Those of us using video content powerfully right now are in the exact spot where mastery of the trade is colliding with never before seen technology and a widening of what video experience can be. That said, it also was a great reminder there's one thing that AI will never be, and that's human. On this panel I discuss human emotion around making our own dreams come true, and how video is a category unto itself in making deep connections with our audiences—connections that last. I was told by many that these were the three Vanessa-isms (TL;DR takeaways): 1. The story is the strategy--allow it to be your north star during production. 2. Not everything that's catchy is compelling, but everything compelling catches on; and 3. To make an impact that spurs whatever you want to be the results of your content, you need to find your own version of vulnerable.
