Stratford Square Mall, a product of the 1980s mall-building craze, has faced challenges while other enclosed malls adapted to changing retail landscapes. Despite efforts by the Mayor and Village Board to collaborate with the mall’s owner, Namdar, negotiations faltered. Consequently, the Village of Bloomingdale took the initiative to acquire the mall and its anchor stores independently. After consolidating the property earlier this year, the Village is now poised to embark on a transformative mixed-use development. Committed to community involvement, the Village Board is diligently crafting a redevelopment plan that incorporates residents' input. This comprehensive approach aims to revitalize the area with a blend of restaurants, entertainment venues, retail spaces, housing options, and public open spaces. This redevelopment project not only promises to reshape Bloomingdale's landscape but also to strengthen its financial foundation. Mayor Franco expressed excitement about the project, highlighting the opportunity to positively impact residents for generations. With the property consolidation complete, the Village is assisting remaining tenants in relocating to new spaces. The mall is set to close to the public on Sunday, April 21st at 6 PM, marking a significant milestone in Bloomingdale's journey towards a vibrant, reimagined hub for the community.

This week, Bloomingdale is serving up a feast for foodies with a lineup of exciting restaurant events. Today marks the grand opening of Shake Shack at 291 Springfield Drive. This is the eleventh Shack in Illinois and promises to be a game-changer with its first drive-thru option. Join the grand opening celebration, and $1 from each sandwich sold will be donated to Kids Against Hunger. But that's not all—Popeyes is also reopening its doors today after a fire forced it to close for remodeling at 405 W. Army Trail Road. After nearly 9 months of reconstruction and rebranding following a fire last summer, Popeyes is excited to welcome back the community to enjoy their favorite Louisiana-style chicken and wings. And the excitement doesn't stop there! Enzo’s Sports Bar & Wood-Fire Pizza is gearing up to open on Tuesday, March 12th, at 298 Glen Ellyn Road, the former home of Amalfi’s. Enzo’s will offer a range of bar-food favorites, with a special highlight on wood-fire pizzas and handcrafted cocktails. The community is eagerly anticipating the arrival of this new dining experience. With these delicious additions to Bloomingdale's culinary landscape, residents and visitors can treat their tastebuds to something special!
