In the field of education, we craft projects and programs aimed at making French language and culture accessible to all US audiences, support partnerships between French and American higher education?and research?institutions and expand opportunities for students to study and complete internships in France.? With offices in 10 major US cities, Villa Albertine is headquartered in New York’s historic Payne Whitney mansion, home to Albertine, our bookshop and nexus for French-American intellectual exchange.

[NEW YORK] How has Paris served as a site of refuge and transnational Black solidarity? ?? In the next installment of Villa Albertine's Black Paris Talk Series, explore the changing artistic, political, and personal strategies employed by Black artists between Africa, the United States, and France as they sought to navigate historical and artistic transformations from the postwar period through the 1990s. This conversation will feature Alicia Knock, Villa Albertine resident and curator of the upcoming "Paris Noir" exhibition at Centre Pompidou, Denise Murrell, curator of "The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism" exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Kimberli Grant, curator at the Brooklyn Museum, in connection with her 2022-2023 traveling exhibition:?"Black Orpheus: Jacob Lawrence & the Mbari Club." This conversation will take place November 19 at Villa Albertine headquarters. Kicking off Albertine Books’ 10th Anniversary Celebration! ?? ? Last night, we were joined by Prix Goncourt-winner Patrick Chamoiseau and Yale Professor Kaiama L. Glover to discuss the interconnectedness of Atlantic literature and cultural hybridity, with expert interpretation by Nicholas Elliott. The conversation explored the impact of colonialism on cultural expression, examining how literature can serve as a means of resistance and powerful way to reclaim identity.
