?? The Silent Epidemic: Chronic Kidney Disease & Heat Stress ?? Did you know? Type 2 diabetes affects 35 million Americans—85% are diagnosed and receiving care. ???? But chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects 36 million people in the U.S.—yet a staggering 90% are undiagnosed. ??? ?? Why does this matter? CKD is often overlooked, yet it is generally not reversible and has life-altering consequences, especially for workers exposed to extreme heat. Studies show that high-heat environments can accelerate kidney injury, leading to CKD of nontraditional origin. In sectors like construction, agriculture, paving, roofing, and manufacturing, workers are at increased risk. https://lnkd.in/eejyGWw4 At VigiLife, we’re taking action. ?? Through partnerships with La Isla Network (Jason Glaser), we leverage technology and data-driven interventions to advocate for better protections—hydration protocols, rest breaks, and health monitoring. And we recognize leadership from companies like AstraZeneca (Jason Williams) in advancing pharmacological solutions to slow CKD progression. ?? We can no longer ignore this crisis. CKD deserves the same attention as more commonly discussed maladies like diabetes—especially for the workers who keep our world running. Let's bring awareness, prevention, and innovation to protect lives. #ChronicKidneyDisease #HeatStress #OccupationalHealth #WorkerSafety #VigiLife #LaIslaNetwork #AstraZeneca #HealthEquity

?? Heat stress isn’t just about discomfort—it’s about SAFETY and PERFORMANCE. ?? Did you know that workplace injuries, accidents, and fatalities increase as temperatures rise? ??? Even before heat exhaustion or heat stroke sets in, human performance declines in critical ways: ?? Physical labor productivity drops 4% for every 1°C above 27°C (80.6°F). ?? Hearing & signal vigilance loss (e.g., missing alarms) begins at 37.5°C (99.5°F). ?? Motor control & cognitive function (problem-solving, reaction time) decline at 37.9°C (100.2°F). A workforce operating with elevated body temperatures isn’t just at risk—it’s also less productive and more prone to long-term health impacts. ?? ?? Proactive heat safety measures save lives and improve efficiency. Is your organization ready? #HeatStress #WorkerSafety #Productivity #OccupationalHealth #VigiLife ?? ?? This powerful visualization from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Scientific Visualization Studio makes it clear: global temperatures have been rising for over a century, and the trend is accelerating. Regardless of the causes, organizations must focus on sustainability, adaptation, and resiliency to protect their people and operations in a changing climate. ?? Many wonderful companies are tackling the root causes of our warming world, but there’s also an urgent need for adaptive solutions that help us manage the new reality. ?? At VigiLife, we’re helping businesses safeguard their workforce against rising temperatures with real-time heat stress monitoring and dynamic work-to-rest recommendations. Let’s work together to build a future that is not just sustainable—but also prepared! #Sustainability ?? #Adaptation ?? #Resiliency ??? #ClimateChange ??? #Innovation ?? #TechForGood ?? #HeatStress ??

Such a great resource for those considering the use of physiological monitoring for your heat illnesses and injury prevention programs! ???? CC: Shoutout to Margaret Morrissey-Basler, PhD as project chair!
Extreme heat events are becoming more frequent and severe, putting workers at greater risk of heat-related injuries and fatalities. A comprehensive heat stress management plan, integrating physiological monitoring, subjective measures, and environmental assessments, is crucial to protect both indoor and outdoor workers. This white paper explores how wearable physiological monitoring systems—measuring core body temperature, heart rate, and Physiological Strain Index (PSI)—can provide timely, individualized insights to guide risk assessments, improve interventions, and educate workers. Check out the preview and download the full document here: https://lnkd.in/dKzn3tN2 A special thank you to the members and volunteers who provided their time and expertise to this project: ?? Even though temperatures are cooling down, safety is always in season! RO is one of 18 companies to win OSHA’s Beat the Heat National Contest this summer. The contest challenged workplaces to showcase how they keep teams safe from heat hazards in both indoor and outdoor environments. We shared the innovative strategies we implement, like cooling stations and the Safeguard Heat Sensors, to prioritize safety. At RO, safety is more than a commitment—it’s the standard we uphold year-round.

VigiLife and our partners at La Isla Network are committed to safeguarding workers against climate-driven heat risks—because prevention saves lives and cuts costs. Thank you to Fast Company and the Health Action Alliance for their advocacy in highlighting this urgent need! ?? Here’s the impact: ? Without action, heat-induced productivity loss costs U.S. businesses $100B/year ?? ? Prevention works: La Isla Network’s recent program, which leverages physiological measurement and intervention, reduced injuries by 72% and boosted productivity by 20%! ?? ?? VigiLife’s Solution: ? Real-time heat monitoring with wearables via its SafeGuard platform provides insights for smarter health, compliance, and productivity management Let’s build a workforce that’s climate-resilient and ready to thrive! #WorkerSafety #HeatProtection #VigiLife #ClimateResilience #LaIslaNetwork #FutureOfWork
Rising temperatures this summer have led to preventable on-the-job heat illnesses and deaths, underscoring the urgent need for action. In this op-ed, Senator Bill Frist, M.D. and Vanessa Kerry, MD MSc, members of our National Commission on Climate and Workforce Health, lay out a compelling case for why heat protections are a win for employees and the bottom line. We’re proud of our Commission members, who use their platforms to drive progress for worker protections in the face of our changing climate. Proactively safeguarding workers with measures like acclimatization, cool water, rest breaks, and heat stress management plans can reduce absenteeism, improve productivity, and lower health care costs. ??? Did You Know? ??? Excessive heat stress is a growing global crisis, impacting workers across diverse industries and geographies . ?? According to the International Labour Organization (ILO) and a recent United Nations press release: ?? 23 million workplace injuries are caused by heat exposure every year. ?? As temperatures rise above 34°C (93.2°F), labor productivity drops by 50%. ?? By 2030, heat stress is expected to cost the global economy $2.4 trillion — a staggering increase from $280 billion in the mid-1990s. Fortunately, we're working with industry, academic, and government partners to develop solutions that empower safe & resilient workplaces while balancing the realities of doing business in essential industries! ?? #HeatStress #WorkerSafety #SustainableWorkforce #ResilientSupplyChains https://lnkd.in/euiw3kkG.
