CONTINUED PUSH FOR CHANGE - KILLED ABROAD VICTIMS FAMILIES The Sunday Mail "Opinion" column and feature says it all - Families of #Scottish #killedabroad #victims like Craig Mallon, Kirsty Maxwell, Jean Hanlon and many others deserve better support. No British Citizen who loved on has been murdered or died in unresolved or suspicious circumstances should be abandoned to find their way through legal systems abroad. Scottish Government, UK Government, Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office please do the right thing and work together with international governments to implement change. Local Consular officials ( as with Barcelona Official Caroline de Jong) do their best but are limited due to lack of joined up international processes. People who follow my social media platforms and everyone who has supported these victims families please share this and other social media posts to help families lobby for change in #Scottish #uk governments support & international collaboration for #killedabroad #victims families. #murderedabroad #killedabroad #victims #justice #murder #homicide #investigations #justiciaparacraig VICTIMS ABROAD Debbie Smirthwaite Joaquim Boadas de Quintana FCDO Services The Scottish Government https://lnkd.in/emnFk2hm

MULTILINGUAL SUPPORT FOR VICTIMS ABROAD It is only when a crime occurs (and sadly it happens more often than you would imagine) that tourists and visitors to other countries discover how, in addition to being affected by the crime itself, their situation as a victim can be compounded by language difficulties, and/or cultural, administrative and legal differences with their home country. Communications with the authorities, police, medical staff and lawyers sometimes become a day-to-day necessity when serious issues arise. This can be problematic if you don’t speak the local language or understand the local systems. Not only do things get lost in translation, victims and their families often end up having lengthy official documents translated that are not always necessary. Alternatively, they may try to improvise by using translation apps or other ad-hoc methods that may lead to vital information being missed or incorrect instructions or observations being given. Victims and families deserve the best support available and we aim to try and bridge that gap and HELP YOU in your time of need.

SPANISH / CATALAN MEDIA FEATURE RE CRAIG MALLON HOMICIDE Our VICTIMS ABROAD colleague Debbie Smirthwaite has written this feature in her victims column of Lloret Gacetta regarding the unresolved homicide of #British Citizen Craig Mallon in 2012. The article includes embedded Sunday Mail features by Jennifer Hyland and a graphic analysis of information regarding significant #french individuals who have never been investigated and interviewed by The Spanish Authorities. When you read this article and the Sunday Mail features you can understand why the #Spanish authorities need to progress enquiries regarding these French men and their various associates who were in Lloret de Mar and near the scene where Craig Mallon so tragically lost his life. Included in this post are some photos taken by Debbie of Craig's memorial bench today (3rd February) on what would have been his 39th birthday. Our Victims Abroad team are thinking of Craig's family and friends on this poignant reflective day. #murder #homicide #homicido #victim #justiciaparacraig #crime #lloretdemar #spain Kathryn Foston Gillian Jack Eva María Navarro Puchaes Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office The Scottish Government https://lnkd.in/gqK4nevE

SPANISH POLICE AND COURTS DO THE RIGHT THING AND INTERVIEW FRENCH SUSPECTS French individuals are suspected of the unresolved Craig Mallon homicide, Lloret de Mar, Catalonia, Spain in May 2012 HOWEVER not one single French person has been interviewed by #Spanish #catalan Police The Mossos d'Esquadra or Spanish Judges. Our #victimsabroad VICTIMS ABROAD team are submitting a dossier direct to Girona court, The Victims Office Girona and Mossos d’Esquadra. Lawyers appointed by the State to support Craig’s family have refused to engage direct with Craig’s father Ian Mallon and our team located in Spain regarding the latest dossier of information referred to in today's (2nd February 2025) Daily Record Sunday Mail article by Jennifer Hyland The powerful quote by our Victims Abroad colleague Debbie Smirthwaite in the Sunday Mail article “For some -families, just knowing that everything reasonably possible has been done and justice would simply mean a -painstaking and thoughtful investigation was carried out. That has not happened with Craig’s case.” The families of homicide victims deserve the best support available. It is unbelievable that French people have featured from day one as potential suspects but not one single French person has been interviewed or features in the case file which Craig’s family and our team have. Craig's family and our team have received very good support from Caroline de Jong The British Consular Official in Barcelona and Joaquim Boadas de Quintana a lawyer in The Fecasarm ( The Catalan Nightlife Association which is a stakeholder in the case. For whatever reason the Spanish Authorities and state appointed lawyers are ignoring the French suspect hypothesis and Craig's family's requests for this tragic loss of a young life to be resolved. Hopefully this will change with our current activity and support of UK and Catalan media #Spanish Police, Mossos d'Esquadra and Courts in Girona and Blanes please do the right thing & interview the #french people. #murder #murderedabroad #homicides #homicidio #coldcase #justice #truth #victims #spain FCDO Services Kathryn Foston Eva María Navarro Puchaes Gillian Jack https://lnkd.in/ePRd_GnM

UNRESOLVED HOMICIDE OF BRITISH CITIZEN CRAIG MALLON IN SPAIN SIGNIFICANT FRENCH INDIVIDUALS Almost 13 years ago in May 2012, Craig Mallon was violently killed in Lloret de Mar, Spain, his death is unresolved. From day 1 French individuals featured as potential suspects however there are no statements ( declaraciones in Spanish) from any French people in the case file. The Spanish authorities confirmed their interest in the French lines of enquiry by initiating a "Commission Rogatoire" to interview French people however abandoned that international judicial process because they were focussing on the wrong French individuals who had no connection with Craig's death. Our VICTIMS ABROAD team have continued to investigate the #french lines of enquiry with Debbie Smirthwaite compiling the dossier referred to in the Daily Record Sunday Mail article on 29th December 2024. (The online and hard copy articles differ slightly so it's worth reading both) Various #Spanish lawyers supposed to be supporting Craig Mallon's family have refused to engage in dialogue and share the dossier with the Spanish Authorities so with support of #Spanish #Catalan Tura Soler and #British media we continue to push to get this vital information investigated by the Spanish Courts and Police. #British #scottish indeed all families of #victims killed abroad in countries like #Spain deserve better than this, all potential lines of enquiry should be pursued with no stone left unturned. https://lnkd.in/e2iaJnch Kathryn Foston Joaquim Boadas de Quintana FCDO Services Eva María Navarro Puchaes Debbie Smirthwaite #murder #homicide #victims #justice #truth Gillian Jack

IT SHOULD BE ALL ABOUT THE VICTIMS Interesting Sunday Post newspaper feature re #truecrime #media public perceptions of #murder #victims with quotes from journalist Sam Poling and I regarding #victim blaming, victim shaming and the need to ensure “it’s all about victims” and “We should never forget what murderers have done but should not sensationalise them and always remember that for every murderer there’s a victim/ victims who is someone’s daughter someone’s son. “ quotes from me on my recent UK True Crime tour. INTERNATIONAL LAWYERS CONFERENCE ATHENS GREECE I am honoured to have been invited to speak at The Pan-European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL) conference in #athens #greece regarding the challenges faced by families losing loved ones abroad as a result of homicide or in unresolved circumstances. Families of #victims #killedabroad are not always able to access the best high quality legal support in other countries for a variety of reasons predominantly due to communication and lack of holistic processes regarding lawyer networks and contacts. Being involved with this international group of connected lawyers operating at the highest levels throughout world is going to help our VICTIMS ABROAD team provide better support to the families and others whose loved ones are killed abroad. Thanks to our collaborative contacts Irwin Mitchell for inviting me and everyone at the amazingly well organised conference for your interest in the work our organisation do to help #victims. Lots of new ideas and legal contacts have been generated from my attendance at The Pan-European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL) Debbie Smirthwaite Gillian Jack Eva María Navarro Puchaes Kathryn Foston #victims #killedabroad #homicide #murder #investigations #crime #lawyers #peopil
