It is designed to move us. When the stress cycle is not completed it can become locked in as bodily tension. Locked in stress can either keep our 'fight or flight' system too active, flooded with too much excitatory information, or it can shut down our 'rest and digest' system, leaving us with not enough activation for proper functioning. We guide people to recover their nervous system so they can reduce the impacts of stress, reduce the impacts of trauma, and improve their mental wellness. Our yoga therapists are knowledgeable in the neuroscience of stress and trauma, skilled in therapeutic movement practices, and supportive of your needs. The Viasomatic method uses yoga therapy (specifically yoga-based movements and breath patterns) to mimic defensive stress responses to complete the stress cycle and move your nervous system back into equilibrium. Without self-regulation skills, triggered states can overwhelm us, making it difficult to process and heal past wounds effectively. Self-regulation is the foundation that allows us to stay present with the emotional intensity that working with our inner child can bring. It helps us maintain a sense of safety, so we don’t become re-traumatized or feel engulfed by those emotions. With self-regulation, we can approach our inner child work with compassion and curiosity.
