As part of efforts to modernize the power grid and enhance reliability and safety, Veteran Power Infrastructure is on track to complete an overhead project in El Cerrito/Richmond, CA, upgrading the 4kV distribution lines to 12kV. This upgrade will boost capacity and efficiency, ensuring the system meets current and future power demands. The original project plan included replacing five poles, installing 66 transformers, 50 crossarms, and about 35,000' of new conductor. However, during the pre-construction site walk, VPI identified 53 additional poles that also required replacement—expanding the project scope significantly. ? One of the main challenges the crews faced was redesigning the project to accommodate the extra poles. VPI worked closely with construction, estimating, and design teams to provide accurate data, allowing the redesign to be completed in just over four weeks. Our crews in Vallejo took on the challenge of safely replacing five backyard electric poles that were inaccessible by truck. With the help of three cranes and seamless teamwork across three crews, they were able to get the job done safely and efficiently. We're proud to support the efforts to move power lines underground across California. Veteran Power Infrastructure has completed 40+ miles to date with multiple ongoing projects, including work in Napa County to underground lines and ensure reliable power for a hospital serving five counties. This critical work will reduce fire risks, minimize public safety power shutoffs, and enhance service reliability—especially important given the hospital’s 19,000+ annual emergency visits. Due to the narrow and steep road, full closures were required. To minimize disruption, VPI organized a detour and deployed three crews, working six days a week to complete the job swiftly. We’re committed to completing this high-priority project as safely and efficiently as possible.
