Happy Veterans Day to all that have served in the United States Armed Forces. I had the privilege of serving almost 4 years on active duty in the United States Air Force. It feels like a few lifetimes ago now. In fact, way back then, I turned 18 in basic training in San Antonio; with an overpowering homesickness that I've thankfully never felt since. Hey, I'll keep it real: I sure did miss my mama. ?? ?? But the USAF was good to me: ? Made my first bus & airline ride. ? Saw Europe (briefly) and the Middle East for the first time. ? Developed skill sets, intangible and tangible, that have been valuable since. ? It forced me to grow up so much earlier, than many of my peers. I credit that for helping to instill a strong sense of business maturity in my life. But the best part: serving with the most incredible people that I'll ever have the honor of calling my lifelong friends. Two of them are pictured here, as I was able to twist the arms of Bruce Gillen (aka "Gilbo") and Troy Boozer, to get them on a podcast with me some 4 years ago or so. It's important to note: just because you are on active duty and have a uniform to wear and a mission to carry out every day - - that doesn't mean life stops. And I sure am grateful to have met & served alongside Gilbo & Booze during one segment of my journey, who provided the support & friendship that really mattered in such a meaningful way. Others that I'm grateful for: Wong, Vazquez, Sears, Ellison, Benner, Daway, James, Goldsmith, Eckert, Donde, Smith...the list could go on and on. And rest in peace to the late Jeremy Cross, who essentially onboarded me when I first arrived in Wichita, KS at McConnell AFB. Cross would drive you crazy at times, with the most outlandish of stories that no one could believe. But he was such a wonderful human being, and perfectly defined the notion of "selfless service". Veterans have a knack of endlessly serving others, long after they take off the uniform. That's been a big part of my mission since I left the USAF in 2002. To that end, we've heavily invested into telling & amplifying the stories of our incredible Veterans as part of our Veteran Voices programming. You can find a few highlights of our SCN team's work on this series in the latest "With That Said", which was published yesterday (link below in comments). To all that have served and are serving: THANK YOU. And to all the wonderful spouses & families that sacrifice so much, on behalf of those serving: THANK YOU. And to Bruce & Troy: THANK YOU and love ya both. #VeteransDay #Veterans Supply Chain Now

I began sharing a weekly "Good News" message back during the pandemic. For one, I wanted to share incredible, uplifting stories from the present & the past with my network, given all the suffering & loss that much of the world was experiencing. But also, frankly, I found it personally therapeutic. Even getting a few minutes' worth of a respite & distraction from whatever troubles your soul - - well that is a good thing. One of my earliest inspirations was one Mr. Henry Darby, who was the principal at North Charleston High School back in 2020. Now imagine how tough it is to be an educator or a school administrator these days (or any days). And now multiply that by the extraordinary challenges that the pandemic presented. However, none of that stopped Mr. Darby from surreptitiously taking on a part-time job at Walmart during the evenings. But not to help his own family make ends meet. As NPR reported, Mr. Darby was "...stocking shelves from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., three nights every week. He's been using the paychecks from that work to help make sure kids from his school have food and basic supplies, or help their families pay their bills. Some money has also gone to former students who need help, or to teachers at his school who need a boost." Mr. Darby was called to action for a variety of reasons: he saw his students & colleagues hurting. And he was also reminded of his own humble beginnings: "...he recalled going with his mother to collect milk and soda bottles from the roadside, hoping to save money to help pay for his education. He talked of trips to the dump, not to throw things away, but to find anything that could help them get by." Mr. Darby would eventually be recognized for his wondrous deeds by receiving the state of South Carolina's highest civilian honor: the Order of the Palmetto. More importantly, he would inspire so many others to also do for others in powerful, non-attention-seeking ways. Reading this story again, for the 17th time, fills my heart with pride for my fellow South Carolinian. I share this today with all of you, during this time of pain, anxiety, stress & heartache for many. Between natural disasters, elections, the holidays & more: a lot of folks are suffering. I also want to present an opportunity to you, which will help others, as well as serve as a powerful distraction: today (Nov. 8th) at 10am ET, my wonderful friends at Vector Global Logistics are taking a page out of Mr. Darby's book, all to support the victims of the devastating floods in Valencia, Spain. Please consider tuning in to learn more & possibly help. Link below. Supply chain is a global business. But let's treat it more like the global family it is, to ensure that no one is left behind. Let's all be like Mr. Darby - and be the change that this world so desperately needs. #supplychain #SpainStrong Supply Chain Now Harold Sally Enrique Kristi Mario Maria Antonio Koray Theodora David Amanda Jake Karin Marty Tandreia Nuria Mary Kate Rob Debbie
