Missed a Retirement Contribution? You Might Still Have Time! If you didn’t make all your retirement contributions before December 31, don’t stress. Some accounts are still open for funding until Tax Day in April. Backdoor Roth IRA – You can still contribute $7,000, or $8,000 if you are 50 or older, and convert it to a Roth. Just note that the conversion will be reported on next year’s taxes. HSA Contributions – If you had a high-deductible health plan in 2024, you can still contribute up to $4,150 as an individual or $8,300 for a family, plus a catch-up if you are 55 or older. State-Specific 529 Plans – If you live in Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, or Wisconsin and use your state’s 529 plan, you may still qualify for a state tax deduction by contributing before Tax Day. SEP IRA and Solo 401(k) – If you have self-employment income, you may still be able to contribute, but the amount depends on your income, so check with your accountant first. One common mistake to watch out for: If you contribute to a SEP IRA, you cannot do a Backdoor Roth IRA in the same year without triggering taxes.
