VestedWorld is a venture capital fund focused on investing in those companies. The three primary countries that we invest in are Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria. Big factories, small yields: The paradox of African agriculture At our ten-year anniversary celebration, Mira Mehta, Founder and CEO of Tomato Jos, highlighted a crucial issue in Nigeria and Africa. Despite the allure of large-scale processing plants, there's often a shortage of raw materials to keep them running efficiently. From rice mills to fertilizer blenders, the temptation to build big often overshadows the reality of limited (nearby) supply. We recently celebrated VestedWorld's 10th anniversary. When I started the firm, many told me to "stay in my lane" as a lawyer. But my passion for African development, belief that the continent presents one of the last "economic frontiers", and my desire to do well by doing good led me down an unexpected path. Unlike my law career, investing in Africa's future doesn't feel like work—it's woven into the fabric of my life. This journey has taught me that when you follow your heart, even the most challenging endeavors can become a natural extension of your purpose. I'm extremely grateful to my colleagues Nneka E., Peter Wamburu, Keziah Njeri, Phylis Njongoro and Von Onyango, FMVA?, investment fellows, and others who have been part of the journey over the years, all our investors, our portfolio companies, our advisors, co-investors, and others in the ecosystem who we have worked with since 2014.
