Verrill achieves a notable appellate victory! ?? The Connecticut Appellate Court ruled in favor of our clients Barbara Heibeck and Skylar Smith, confirming a 99-year lease as contractual. The Connecticut Supreme Court's denial of further review solidifies this win. Great work by Andrew Nevas and Kristen Rossetti!

Brian Hurley and Lauren Galvin of Verrill have been named Lawyers of the Year for their pivotal role in clarifying Massachusetts' anti-SLAPP law. Their advocacy led the Supreme Judicial Court to simplify the statute, eliminating years of convoluted standards and restoring a more straightforward framework. The landmark decision in?Bristol Asphalt Co. v. Rochester Bituminous Products?now provides clearer guidance for trial courts and practitioners, ensuring anti-SLAPP motions are more efficient and less burdensome. Hurley and Galvin’s work not only resolved a decade-long dispute but also set a precedent that will impact cases for years to come.

Verrill was proud to sponsor the University of Maine School of Law and Black Law Students Association University of Maine School of Law at the recent Northeast Black Law Student Association (NEBLSA) Regional Conference in Boston.?
Thank you Verrill for supporting the University of Maine School of Law , Black Law Students Association University of Maine School of Law for the 2025 Northeast Black Law Student Association (NEBLSA) Regional Conference this month. Under the theme "The Golden Standard: Shaping the Future of Legal Excellence" law student from across the northeast gathered in Boston to discuss the future for our region. The conference provided an opportunity for Maine Law to showcase its efforts in strengthening its commitment to minority lawyers and also provide its yearly report of events and contribution in the Northeast such as the BIPOC Networking event hosted last February which saw over 100 representatives from businesses all over Maine. Maine Law was also able to cast votes in all positions for the next leadership of the Northeast Black Law Student Association (NEBLSA) and finally participate in various panels and discussions including bar preparation and best practices for entry level lawyers. Special thanks to Jonathan Dunitz and his team at Verrill for stepping in three days before departure in making this all achievable! Maine Law delegates for 2025: Andy Almonte and Rajay Maragh
