?? “Without our presence, the waste would have overflowed onto the road and into the streets. Now, many have embraced collecting plastic waste instead of burning it.” – Khassim Diagne, Plastic Collector, Deekali Project? --------------------------------------------------------------------? Next week, the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5) (external) to develop a global plastic treaty will take place in Busan, Republic of Korea. Verra’s Plastic Waste Reduction Program (Plastic Program) can support various treaty objectives. (To learn more, see the link in the comments.) The Plastic Program has had a real demonstrated impact on the ground by catalyzing community-driven solutions that can support global efforts to tackle plastic waste.? Let’s take a look how it has impacted plastic waste management and people’s lives in Senegal.? ----------------------------------------------------------------------? ?? Khassim Diagne is a plastic collector who has dedicated himself to cleaning up the Thiès landfill in Senegal for nearly 15 years.? Khassim’s efforts are integral to the Deekali Plastic Recovery Project which aims to restore Senegal’s natural beauty while providing new opportunities for its people.? Deekali, means "to give a second life" in Wolof – and it captures the project’s impact as the project has become a vital initiative in the fight against plastic pollution.? Developed by Africa Carbon & Commodities and certified through Verra’s Plastic Waste Reduction Program, it empowers community members to collect and recycle plastic waste. So far, the Deekali Project has successfully removed 4,076 metric tons of plastic waste from the environment, with 5,200 tons repurposed. This initiative not only bolsters the community's economy but also fosters a cleaner environment. Stay tuned for more Deekali highlights in the coming days! 关于我们
Verra works to provide standards for a sustainable future that address pressing environmental and sustainable development issues. Through robust standards, we help accurately quantify benefits and drive investment in responsible, high-performing projects and programs. We work closely with partners in civil society, governments and the private sector to develop novel frameworks and enable results on the ground. Our flagship standard, the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program, is the longstanding leading standard in the voluntary carbon market. Since our start in 2009, Verra has expanded our work into new arenas based on increasing demand for social and environmental standards. Today, a growing staff with operatives around the world manage our standards and programs, including the Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standard, the Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard and the Landscape Standard. We consistently work with our partners to ensure that our existing and new requirements reflect the most current knowledge and global best practice. We are steadily expanding the scope of Verra to respond to the need for new, forward-thinking standards, with a focus on market-based, workable solutions to thorny social and environmental challenges. Verra was originally founded by a collection of business and environmental leaders who saw a need for greater quality assurance in voluntary carbon markets. Our founding partners - The Climate Group, International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) and The World Economic Forum - convened a team of global carbon market experts to draft the first Verified Carbon Standard requirements. World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) joined the effort soon after.

Pilot projects such as that of Bayer | Crop Science play an incredibly important role in the development of Verra's Scope 3 Standard Program by adapting methodologies and testing the guidance, rules and requirements. The learnings from these pilots will inform the development of a robust and rigorous program that enables the credible accounting for and reporting on value chain interventions. #Scope3 #ClimateAction
Bayer is proud to participate in Verra’s Scope 3 Standard (S3S) Program alongside 3Degrees Group, Inc., Klim, and Patagonia as part of their pilot initiative to test groundbreaking methodologies aimed at reducing emissions across the agriculture supply chain. By collaborating with Verra, we’re helping shape a new era of emissions reporting and sustainable practices. #RegenerativeAgriculture

?? Verra has opened a public consultation on the draft Methodology for Alternative Low-Carbon Fuels for Shipping in the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program. ?? ?? The consultation will be open through December 18, 2024. ?? The proposed methodology applies to shipping activities in both territorial waters and on high seas that involve using low-carbon alternative fuels (e.g., hydrogen produced through water electrolysis, green ammonia, e-LNG, e-LPG, e-diesel, e-methanol). Eligible project activities include switching from traditional petroleum-based fuels to low-carbon alternatives, known as drop-in fuels. ??
