Last week the VCWA team attended the Global Ties U.S. 2025 National Meeting in Washington, DC. The National Meeting brought together the international exchange Network under the theme, Stronger Alliances, Stronger Communities. The VCWA team participated in Advocacy Day, meeting with Congressional representatives from Vermont, and attended information briefs expanding our knowledge of exchange programming. Thank you to all who made this a wonderful conference, including the Office of International Visitors at the U.S. Department of State, Global Ties U.S., and all of our national partners. #IVLP #CitizenDiplomacy #GlobalExchange

Community Leader | Relationships Expert | Fundraiser | Mental Health First Aid Trainer | Travel Advisor | Travel Planner | Accessible Transportation
I was honored to be invited to participate virtually in a panel presentation on Sunday morning at the Second UJLEP IREX (US-Jordan Leadership Exchange Program) Alumni Conference in Jordan. I was invited to speak on the impact of gender-based violence on mental health and talked about the effects of Mental Health First Aid for those supporting adults in the U.S. I was joined on the panel by Professor Ayman Halaseh (Director of the Information and Research Center at the King Hussein Foundation), and Dr. Hadeel Ma'aitah (Higher Council Member of the Jordanian National Forum for Women), and the panel was moderated by Marina AlSahawneh (Gender and Technology Specialist / UJLEP Cohort One Alumni). I really enjoyed learning from the other two panelists about their concerns about gender-based violence and social media and the work currently being done. I want to thank my Jordanian friends, Rand Almbaidin, Marina AlSahawneh, and Ahmed Albazbaz for inviting me into their work on Enhancing Cybersecurity Skills and Promoting Mental Health. I look forward to my visit to Jordan in January to learn even more about the work being done to break the stigma and keeping people safe. I also want to thank the Vermont Council on World Affairs for giving me the opportunity to work with Rand in 2023 while she was visiting Vermont to help move this work forward. If you don't know about the VCWA, I strongly suggest you look into the opportunities they offer to connect with people from around the world. We are all neighbors and supporting each other makes this a better world.
