This month, Veritas Steel wants to spotlight Welder Matthew Quiroz in our Palatka, FL, facility. Matthew learned to weld through on-the-job training in his 7 months at Veritas, and he has also been training in fitting and reading blueprints. ? He says every day is a learning experience, and he is motivated to learn a trade that he can someday instruct others in. ?? Matthew says, “My biggest win here has been expanding my toolbox of knowledge.” ?? In his spare time, Matthew enjoys painting custom cars. ?? This month let’s take a closer look at the arch bridge, which uses an upward convex curved arch to support vertical loads. Arch bridges are extremely strong because they flex or bend under pressure. They can span long distances and adapt easily to many environmental factors. One notable Veritas Steel arch bridge is the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in Washington D.C. Let’s look back at this exceptional project: the eastbound George V. Voinovich Bridge in downtown Cleveland. Veritas Steel ‘s two Wisconsin facilities, Wausau and Eau Claire, fabricated over 18,600 tons of steel for this I-90 Interchange bridge. This project was the largest bridge replacement effort in Ohio at the time of completion.
