I have over the past months reflected a lot on self-leadership - basically how to lead oneself effectively, this means setting personal goals, understanding our own behavior, and having the discipline (yes cause it is hard work) to make sure we stay the course and in line with our own value system. How do we take responsibility for our actions/inactions and choices (good or bad) and how do we learn to forgive ourselves and let go/detach. Here are my reflections: Self-leadership is particularly important if we want to exercise leadership for several reasons: 1. Freedom of the mind and empowerment: Self-leadership fosters agency, helping people to take control of their careers and personal lives. It encourages us to define our own goals and pursue them with confidence. 2. Determining our own boundaries and navigating barriers: we often face unique challenges in professional settings, such as race/gender bias, conflicts and miscommunication. Self-leadership equips us with the skills to navigate these barriers, advocate for ourselves, and have the capacity to have the harder conversations that need more energy. 3. Building confidence: Developing self-leadership skills enhances self-awareness and self-esteem, helping us to recognize their strengths and capabilities. This confidence can be crucial in overcoming imposter syndrome and taking on leadership roles. 4. Work-Life Balance: Every year I speak to hundreds of high caliber professionals who struggle to manage their time and priorities effectively, which is particularly important for balancing professional aspirations with personal responsibilities. People who practice self-leadership have more equilibrium and lead a more fulfilling life which in turn brings in a positive work/team environment. 5. Influencing Change and owning the helm: Poeple in leadership positions who embrace self-leadership can drive change within organizations, advocating for policies and practices and steering decisions in the direction they intend to. Self-leadership is like a tree, deeply rooted in self-awareness and values, providing a strong foundation for personal growth. Just as a tree's branches reach toward the sky, self-leadership encourages us to pursue our goals and aspirations. The leaves represent the lessons learned through experiences, and the resilience of the tree reflects our ability to adapt and thrive despite challenges. While the leaves fall and there may be a period of loss, spring is always around the corner. Ashveena Gajeelee #adaptiveleadership

Insights from Andy Lee on how to include mindfulness in the workplace. Very practical advice on what works and what we should refrain from doing. ? Breathwork as a stress reduction tool: Breathwork, a practice focused on regulated breathing, was shown to effectively reduce stress and improve well-being, with immediate physiological benefits like activating the parasympathetic nervous system. Successful workplace pilot programs: Pilot programs in both manufacturing and call center environments demonstrated measurable improvements, including a 22% reduction in stress and better focus, sleep, and recovery. Adapting mindfulness to workplace settings: The session emphasized designing time-efficient breath work programs tailored to specific workplace constraints, highlighting the importance of delivering practical, micro-practices that employees can easily implement.
