Although many people perceive eating disorders to overwhelmingly affect women, studies suggest that up to 40% of people with eating disorders are boys and men. Despite this, men and boys are far less likely to seek treatment. Some of the factors that may put males at an increased risk of developing an eating disorder include: ? Direct or perceived pressure to alter appearance or weight ? The pervasive influence of the media and social media ? Internal and societal pressure to meet 'thin,' 'muscular,' or 'fit' ideals ? Belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community, where pressures around body image can be intensified ? Body dissatisfaction, or negative or distorted body image ? Medical conditions that impact eating habits, body weight, and shape ? Mental health conditions like depression and anxiety ? Childhood and adolescence developmental stages ? Involvement in areas that emphasize weight and body shape, such as competitive sports, performing arts, and modeling This Men's Health Month, we're spotlighting this discrepancy. It's crucial for boys and men to understand that they're not alone and that seeking support is something to be proud of. By challenging stereotypes and recognizing how eating disorders manifest across all populations, we can better connect everyone struggling to the appropriate care. Orthorexia is a disordered eating pattern that involves an unhealthy obsession with "clean" eating that can disrupt mental, social, and physical well-being. In a culture that often glorifies health-conscious habits, the warning signs of orthorexia can be easily overlooked. Look for symptoms such as: ?? An obsession with food quality and its perceived health impacts ?? Excessive food planning and preparation ?? Limited food variety and repetitive eating ?? Emotional distress or anxiety when "safe" foods aren't available ?? Social withdrawal, especially from situations involving food ?? Loss of interest in once-enjoyed activities At Veritas Collaborative, we are equipped to treat orthorexia by integrating nutritional guidance with psychotherapeutic interventions tailored to each individual's unique needs. If you encounter patients struggling with these challenges, we're here to help. Together, we can work toward restoring a balanced approach to nutrition and health. To make a referral or learn more about Vertias' treatment programs, contact us at 1-855-875-5812.

Eating disorders don't take summer vacations. Share these tips with your patients in recovery to get them ready for the season ahead. Changes in routine and environment, heightened body image concerns, and an increase in food-centered social gatherings can all exacerbate worries about food and body during the summertime, making recovery a bit more complicated—but certainly not impossible. With proper planning and a commitment to healing, a restful and engaging summer is within reach. ?? If you spot the signs of an eating disorder in a patient, refer them for Veritas' early intervention services today: https://ow.ly/7LiZ50S22tr
