It’s #TechnologyTuesday and we’re shining a spotlight on TIGSED! ?? Developed by our team at legacy TIG Environmental, TIGSED? is Verdantas’ proprietary method for modeling sediment contamination transport both horizontally and vertically at contaminated sediment sites. TIGSED combines hydrodynamic sediment transport modeling results with the SEDCAM equation and CapSIM software to capture a wide range of important contaminant transport processes, including sediment deposition, groundwater upwelling, and contaminant decay. Utilizing the sediment column modeling capabilities of CapSIM, TIGSED assesses deeper sediments and accounts for vertical contaminant transport processes, including advection, dispersion, and groundwater upwelling. For a recent client, we used TIGSED to model four miles of the Lower Duwamish Waterway (LDW) using 224 grid cells based on sediment core locations. The TIGSED model evaluated the effectiveness of MNR, EMNR, and capping for 44 contaminants, identifying where each method could work. By integrating the expertise and resources of acquired companies like legacy TIG Environmental with Verdantas’ capabilities and offerings, we’re able to offer a broader range of innovative tools and methodologies to existing and prospective clients, ensuring more comprehensive and effective environmental solutions.
