?? ?? Last week at the Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, I had the privilege of connecting with my incredible Verdani team and meeting new colleagues in the sustainable real estate space. In the wake of the election, it was inspiring to feel the camaraderie and shared commitment to advancing a healthy, decarbonized, and resilient built environment. ?? As a communications professional, I particularly enjoyed the interactive sessions on designing impactful signage for green buildings and leveraging cartography and mapping to enhance communication with clients. Effective communication is such a critical driver for encouraging sustainable choices—both individually and with businesses. The insights I gained from these sessions will undoubtedly help us create even more effective engagement programs at Verdani Partners. ?? Cheers to the amazing speakers who shared their expertise and designed what I thought were the most engaging sessions of the week!? **Key Takeaways from USGBC’s New PERFORM Program** The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has launched **PERFORM**, a groundbreaking program to help real estate portfolios achieve meaningful sustainability improvements through guidance, tools, and third-party verification. Here’s key takeaways: 1. **Portfolio-Wide Approach**: PERFORM focuses on improving sustainability across entire real estate portfolios, not just individual buildings. This allows organizations to align their entire asset base with sustainability goals. 2. **Customizable and Actionable**: Organizations set their own goals and receive portfolio-wide guidance, enabling them to create actionable, measurable improvement plans based on their specific sustainability targets. 3. **Third-Party Verification**: PERFORM includes independent verification from GBCI, allowing companies to credibly demonstrate their progress in areas such as emissions, energy, waste, and water reduction. 4. **Tools and Technical Support**: The program provides a suite of tools and technical support, offering standardized assessment, performance measurement, and data-driven insights to guide decision-making and track incremental improvements. 5. **Comprehensive Metrics**: Beyond energy and emissions, PERFORM helps track and verify performance across a range of environmental, social, and resilience metrics, aligning with broader ESG objectives. 6. **Seamless Integration with LEED and Arc**: PERFORM complements the LEED certification framework and integrates with Arc, USGBC’s digital platform, enabling organizations to streamline sustainability reporting and performance tracking across their portfolios. PERFORM offers a strategic pathway for organizations to bridge the gap between sustainability goals and real, verifiable outcomes, providing a powerful tool for those committed to advancing a greener, resilient future across their real estate assets.
