It was so cool to participate in North East Trees and Community Nature Connection's black walnut collection & dye workshop on Saturday on behalf of Vera Society. I haven't worked with natural dyes before, and the process for creating them was fascinating. I hope that this effort and others like it helps to cultivate this threatened native Southern California tree!

Vera Society's inaugural Plant-a-Thon was an inspiring event for our membership. In the morning we helped out at North East Trees black walnut seed collection event and in the evening the board got together to do some collective planting with our families. Members also had the opportunity to plant California poppy seeds in their own native gardens, in spite of the heat of the day!

In April, Vera Society's board and staff (with their kids) made a trip the nursery of Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and Native Plants - another proponent of California native plants. It was a beautiful day for adults and kids alike. We hope to partner with these types of organizations in the future!
