Veolia inaugurated the first world urban network to use residual cold from a regasification process as a sustainable #energy source for industrial and residential purposes, located at the Enagás liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the Port of #Barcelona. ??? This new recovery facility harnesses residual cold energy from the LNG terminal, and turns it into decarbonized energy injected directly into the grid. ?? It will then serve industries, more than 11,000 homes, and Mercabarna, Barcelona’s main wholesale food market. ?? This pioneering #innovation will avoid 32,000 tons of carbon emissions per year, equivalent to 110 round-trip long-haul flights between Barcelona and New York, in line with our vision of #EcologicalTransformation. ?? With over 150 regasification terminals worldwide, this unique solution opens up considerable prospects for the production of low carbon local energy from hither to untapped fields. This project demonstrates the feasibility and relevance of local supply solutions to meet the global challenges of energy sovereignty and decarbonization. Thank you to our partners at Enagás, the Barcelona City Council, the Port de Barcelona, Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, Generalitat de Catalunya for helping such an ambitious project come to life. Thank you to our customers, Mercabarna and the presidents of Asociación de Empresas Mayoristas de Mercabarna and the Guilds. And thank you to the whole Veolia team (Veolia Espa?a) involved in the work for its passion and ingenuity. ?? Learn more about this project: https://lnkd.in/eHJ_Ku3J

#WorldToiletDay | In Cox's Bazar, #Bangladesh, nearly a million Rohingyas have taken refuge. During humanitarian operations, usually in post-emergency situations, sanitation is a crucial issue, especially fecal sludge.?? So, how can we protect populations from the pathologies carried by these flows? How can we ensure that what is returned to #nature is not a vector for pollution? How can we protect the various resources needed to treat #water and make it drinkable? The Fondation Veolia (Romain V.) is working with the OIM - ONU Migration, to install a pilot fecal sludge post-treatment system inside the refugee camps. Two Veoliaforce volunteers from Veolia Eau d'Ile-de-France, Thomas Schwarz and Melvin Radlo, went on the field to install and optimize the #Saniforce Solar, a low-#energy solution for treating fecal sludge. It is designed to treat the contents of septic tanks and latrine pits for up to 500 people. ?????? The IOM operates a decentralized wastewater treatment system, comprising an anaerobic treatment system and an effluent infiltration system. Faced with the persistence of pathogens such as cholera, the UN agency turned to Saniforce for its ability to rid the material of 99.9% of potential pathogens. ?? ?? The Council of the European Union has adopted today the revised text of the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD), meaning the legislation will drive urban #water management in #Europe for the years to come. This update is a significant step in the right direction, paving the way to a water-resilient Europe. ???? ?? ?? Enhancing #WaterQuality and protecting the health of European citizens: By extending the requirement for tertiary and quaternary treatments, the directive ensures that pollutants are significantly reduced before discharge enabling an improvement of the water environment and safeguarding the #health of citizens by minimizing exposure to harmful substances. ?????? ?? Protecting ecosystems: The directive mandates Member States to protect sensitive areas prone to eutrophication, and to prevent stormwater overflows and anticipate extreme weather events, encouraging the use of #nature-based solutions to restore urban ecosystems. ?? ?? Transforming wastewater into a key resource for the #CircularEconomy: The directive supports the circular economy by turning wastewater treatment plants into resource recovery facilities to produce #energy and fight #ClimateChange, promote the reuse of treated #wastewater, and recycle phosphorus and nitrogen. ?? Based on its more than 100-year-old expertise and portfolio of solutions for water management, Veolia is ready to collaborate with policymakers, municipalities and local communities to effectively implement these changes, deploy required technologies and solutions, and create a resilient and sustainable water future for all. ???? #EcologicalTransformation
