We Invest Like It Matters, Because It Does!

关于我们

VegTech? Invest is an investment management company that advises a Plant-based Innovation ETF. It also produces a Plant-based Innovation & Alternative Proteins index as an industry benchmark. VegTech Invest invests in public companies that are actively innovating with plants and plant-derived ingredients and that produce primary products that are animal-free. We believe these companies positively impact climate change, planetary health and sustainability, human health, and animal health. We also believe that we are on the cusp of a long-term secular trend that will result in the disrupting of the global food and materials supply chain for a more efficient, climate friendly and sustainable. ?? Can we feed the world AND protect the planet? A recent Guardian article explores one of the most urgent questions of our time — how to sustainably feed a growing population without further degrading ecosystems or depleting natural resources? The truth? Our global food system must change. ?? According to Our World In Data, current agricultural practices already occupy half of all habitable land and are responsible for a third of global greenhouse gas emissions. Meanwhile, climate change is reducing crop yields and increasing food insecurity — a vicious cycle. ?? The solution lies in investing in the transformation of our global food system — from reducing waste and overconsumption to rethinking protein and how it is made. It’s not just a policy issue — it’s an investment opportunity. ?? At VegTech Invest, we believe that investing in food innovation and sustainable agtech is key to creating a future where nutritious food is accessible AND ecosystems are protected. This includes alternative protein, precision fermentation, and next-gen farming models that decouple growth from environmental harm. ?? A new food era is emerging. It’s time to finance the transformation and potentially capitalize on its growth. ?? What happens when one alt-protein pioneer acquires another? A major shift in the future of food. ?? Unilever has announced it will sell The Vegetarian Butcher to Vivera (owned by meat company JBS), creating one of the largest plant-based protein companies in Europe. The move brings together two influential players in the diversified protein space—combining heritage, scale, and innovation under Vivera’s ownership. Unilever originally acquired The Vegetarian Butcher in 2018 as part of its commitment to sustainable nutrition and scaling plant-based options. Now, with a sharpened strategic focus, it's divesting the brand to a company fully dedicated to meat alternatives. This consolidation signals the accelerating transformation of food systems—where purpose-driven companies are building the next generation of protein to reduce reliance on industrial animal agriculture. At VegTech? Invest, we see this as another example of the momentum building behind food system innovation. The future of food is diversified and tech-enabled. The U.S. Department of Defense is investing heavily in food innovation. Via the Distributed Bioindustrial Manufacturing Program (DBIMP), it has allotted 12 of its 34 awards, representing $60 million in total, to food innovation. Diversified proteins, sustainable oils, fungi and fermented products and production are all interests of the DoD. Each awardee has the potential for a follow-on award of $100 million. “The next industrial revolution will be a bio manufacturing revolution. DoD is keenly aware of that reality,” said Heidi Shyu, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. “DBIMP’s investment in a diverse set of companies will help transition U.S. bioindustrial manufacturing from the laboratory to a network of large-scale production facilities, able to fortify defense supply chains…while positioning the U.S. bio economy for surging growth.” Including global food security as part of national security and U.S. competitiveness, Dr. Laura Taylor-Kale, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment noted that “The introduction of new investment and funding strategies aligned to the National Defense Industrial Strategy offers the DoD rapid access to commercial solutions for defense requirements.” #investment #dod #food #innovation
