BIPOC led & founded, anti-speciesist, anti-colonial organization working to end the exploitation of beyond-human persons
关于我们
Vegan Activist Alliance was founded on the belief that all Beings have a natural right to their autonomy and to live free from oppression regardless of species. We are a community-driven, anti-speciesist, anti-colonial organization working to end the exploitation of beyond-human persons (animals). We seek to challenge power-holders and the status quo on who is deserving of freedom and autonomy and who is included in the fight for social justice. VAA strives to achieve individual and systemic change exploitative industries by movement and coalition building, raising awareness, building community, and working on policy. Our public activations are experiential. We engage with the public via video footage, conversation, literature, art, music, poetry, performances, and plant-based food. We seek to build community and empower activists to lead in the fight for liberation without depending on any particular group or brand– including us. Our goal is not only to create more activists but to build a more cohesive and inclusive movement. VAA takes an abolitionist, radically inclusive, anti-speciesist, anti-racist, anti-colonial, anti-imperialist approach to our liberation work. We believe in the interconnectedness of all Beings and the planet and hold our consistent anti-oppression views firmly. We stand in solidarity with all persons regardless of species and with all members of our community regardless of race, color, sex, age, national origin, ethnicity, citizenship status, religion or lack thereof, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, neurodiversity, physical and mental ability, and any other status as a federal, state or local protected class. Thank you for joining us in the fight for liberation and for being in community with us!

We are excited to share that our Executive Director, Eloísa Trinidad, will be speaking at the largest event focused on planetary and climate health—the sold-out 2025 Our Climate, Our Health Climate Action Convention! Through our work, we continue to advance conversations on collective liberation, public health, and the urgent need to end factory farming, highlighting its impact on flora, fauna, and frontline and historically marginalized communities. Movement and coalition building are at the core of what we do, as we drive towards collective liberation for all Beings. We’re especially looking forward to the advocacy day on Capitol Hill following the conference. While the in-person event is sold out, we invite you to join us virtually. REGISTRATION: https://lnkd.in/gR6EKBXF Our Planet, Our Health: 2025 Climate Action Convention is a pivotal gathering of medical, public health, and climate leaders, experts, advocates, and educators. This event is dedicated to driving progress toward a healthier, more sustainable, and just future, a theme that is more relevant now than ever. The convention will be held at the John Hopkins Bloomberg Center and George Mason University. Through a series of dynamic sessions — offered in person and online — we will examine the state of our planet’s health and the necessary steps to achieve a sustainable future. Attendees will gain insights into cutting-edge research on the links between ecological drivers and health outcomes, explore strategies for building resilience and equity in the face of climate challenges, and learn how to build capacity for science-informed policymaking. Building Equity and Resilience: Farmer-Centered Approaches to Policy and Climate Solutions: This session explores the challenges farmers face due to inequitable policies and climate impacts, including health, productivity, and systemic barriers. Through firsthand accounts, it highlights strategies to design inclusive policies, build resilience, and foster collaboration among farmers and medical professionals for science-backed equitable, sustainable outcomes. #ProtectTheSacred #ClimateAction #ClimateCrisis #Polycrisis #Resilience #FoodSystems #Agriculture #FoodSoverignty #FoodJustice #Farmers #Farmworkers #Equity #Justice #PublicHealth #WashingtonDC #Agriculture #Policy #PolicyMaking #ClimateJustice

Martin Luther King Jr., was a fierce revolutionary who challenged the very foundations of an unjust, racist system in the United States. MLK Jr. was not a passive figure who only gave inspirational speeches. He was a fierce revolutionary who stood against racism, colonialism, imperialism, and capitalism. Dr. King stood in solidarity with Indigenous liberation efforts, recognizing the interconnected struggles of oppressed peoples. Dr. King’s revolutionary approach confronted what he called the “three evils of society”: racism, economic exploitation, and militarism. He condemned capitalism’s exploitation of people of all races and called for a multi-racial working-class coalition to demand transformational change. In the late 1950s, he actively supported the Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Alabama, fighting against segregation in their schools. At the time, darker-skinned Native children were denied access to the same buses their lighter-skinned siblings could ride. King’s intervention allowed all children, regardless of skin tone, to ride the bus, marking a victory for desegregation. Dr. King understood that collective liberation requires solidarity. His vision reminds us that the fight for civil rights, sovereignty, and #LANDBACK are deeply intertwined. Until there is justice for all, there is justice for none. May we continue to build coalitions rooted in justice, equity, and liberation, honoring his radical legacy in the ongoing fight for freedom. #MartinLutherKingJr #MLK #MLKDay #AntiRacism #AntiColonial #Decolonize #Imperialsim #Radical #BLM #Protest #Justice #CivilRights #SocialJustice #MLKLegacy #IHaveADream #Equality #Vegan #Veganism #CollectiveLiberation

?? Greater Los Angeles Wildfires: A Crisis Unfolding ?? Impact on beyond-human persons, people, and the planet: ??Beyond- human persons are losing their habitats, food sources, and lives, with many forced into human-populated areas. They also experience stress and anxiety during crises. ??Pasadena Humane has sheltered over 300 beyond-human relatives, including dogs, cats, peacocks, and raccoons, though exact numbers of those impacted are not yet available. ??In 2024, over 600 species were impacted by California’s wildfires, including the California condor, mountain lions, desert tortoises, companion animals, farmed animals, salamanders, great gray owls, Pacific martens, wolverines, deer, rabbits, and foxes. ??At least 13 people have been killed. ??Nearly 200,000 people have been forced to evacuate. ??Over 39,000 acres burned. ??Nearly 47,998 homes and businesses are left without power in LA County. ??Water supplies running dangerously low. ??Wildfires result in soil erosion, water contamination, and massive air pollution. ?? Colonialism is the root cause of the climate crisis and has led to increased disasters such as wildfires, hurricanes, heatwaves, rising sea levels, and species extinction. In 1850, California banned Indigenous cultural burns, a practice perfected over centuries to manage forest density, reduce undergrowth, prevent wildfires, and promote fire-resistant ecosystems. Western science dismissed this method as unscientific, while settlers introduced non-native, highly flammable plants and trees. Colonialism further prioritized extractive industries like mining, logging, fossil fuel drilling, and animal agriculture, displacing Indigenous communities, deforesting lands, disrupting biodiversity, and degrading soil quality. These actions set the stage for the devastating wildfires California faces today. However, centuries of Indigenous knowledge and reciprocal care for Mother Earth offer a path forward, proving that we cannot address the climate crisis without #LANDBACK. ??Donate to mutual aid organizations: @ktownforall @jtownaction? @aetnastreetsolidarity @dykesarekosher ?@allpowerbooks ?@7thstcollective ???Donate to these Indigenous organizations fighting for LANDBACK: Tongva Taraxat (@tongva.taraxat)? Colonialism is the root cause and the ongoing driver of the climate crisis. Repost from @lylajune: The root of the LA fires is, ironically, the prohibition of fire. (Follow LA based Indigenous nonprofits @tongva.taraxat and @sacredplacesinstitute). Indigenous Peoples densely populated what is now known as Los Angeles and performed routine, patchy burns, applying low intensity, gentle fire to the land. This would prevent catastrophic fires because it would periodically burn away the fuel loads that would build up. When there’s too many shrubs and trees, not only does it create lots of fuel to catch on fire, their roots suck up all of the water in the water table, drying up the soil and the trees themselves more and more. It’s better to have a few healthy trees than hundreds and hundreds of dried up, sick trees. Our ancestors knew this and properly thinned the shrubs and trees accordingly. It’s time to bring this practice back and empower indigenous peoples to lead that effort. Cultural burns are our heritage. @jessa_songwriter1 @lylajune #LANDBACK #ClimateJustice #Wildfires #EnvironmentalRacism #IndigenousKnowledge #California #MutualAid #Colonialism #AntiColonial #Decolonize #LA #LosAngeles #ClimateChange #Fires #SoCal #Vegan #AnimalRights #Plantbased #Hollywood
