A 2020 study found that an estimated 14.2% of public safety personnel battle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and with historical stigma around mental health, this number may be even higher. Mental illness and stress can lead to decreased job performance, strained personal relationships, and an increased risk of physical illness. It is an agency's responsibility to offer mental health support to ensuring officers have access to resources and support they need.
